About this listen

After being branded during the battle of Jericho, Moriyah has had no prospects for marriage - until now. She hopes to please the man, but things go horribly wrong and she is forced to flee for her life. Seeking safety at one of the Levitical cities of refuge, she is unprepared for the dangers she faces, and the enemies - and allies - she encounters on her way.

Seven years ago, Moriyah was taken captive in Jericho and branded with the mark of the Canaanite gods. Now the Israelites are experiencing peace in their new land, but Moriyah has yet to find her own peace. Because of the shameful mark on her face, she hides behind her veil at all times and the disdain of the townspeople keeps her from socializing. And marriage prospects were out of the question...until now.

Her father has found someone to marry her, and she hopes to use her love of cooking to impress the man and his motherless sons. But when things go horribly wrong, Moriyah is forced to flee. Seeking safety at one of the newly-established Levitical cities of refuge, she is wildly unprepared for the dangers she will face, and the enemies - and unexpected allies - she will encounter on her way.

Story good, but narrator not so much

I really like this author but using this narrator to tell the story makes it a difficult listen. How she say Yahweh always makes me want to laugh.

Hope

Beautiful story of faith, hope, love and redemption. My second book by author and not my last to read/listen to.

God’s Provision and Purpose for Our Lives

A Light on the Hill is a beautiful adventurous story of tragedy and God’s grace, seen even through the foreshadowing of Christ painted into the pages of Old Testament. The story and characters are heartwarming making listening more enjoyable and a little sad when it was over.

The Great Story is Worth the Not Great Narration

I’m so sad to have this book end! I’ve loved the Out From Egypt series and then A Light on the Hill.
This is such an excellent story!
I do feel like there was too much moving around and not enough of the time between the trial and during the trial, but that’s okay!
The narrator, however was awful!
She has to stop and take breaths in the middle of a lot of sentences, and she even has to correct herself in one near the end. She accidentally says the wrong word, you can’t miss it. She also makes like NO effort to voice act. She’ll throw in the little kids voices, but everyone else is just her voice. The Out From Egypt narrator was WORLDS better, actually making an effort to make every character different. ALSO, she mispronounces like all of the names. Even Yahweh... like seriously?? I’ll be straight up avoiding the hooks she narrates in the future. Huge bummer.

But the story is worth dealing with the narrator!! Can’t read the first 3 and then not this one, obviously..

Amazing!

This is the 4th bk Ive listened to and I was not disappointed. A great weaver of people places & events. You really feel like you are in the story & want to talk to characters and say "hey watch out, be careful dont trust him...."
SPOILER ALERT:

The scared hands pulling (her) into safety made me think of Jesus nailed pierced hands pulling me into safety....
Looking forward to next book!!!!

Biblical history comes to life

A beautiful Biblical historical story comes to life with some leniency. Wonderfully written, draws you in and keeps your attention, you i’ll laugh, cry and be in awe at times! Looking forward to the next in this series, thank you Connilyn!
