Publisher's summary

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Karen Rose comes another explosive novel in the New Orleans series, where some secrets are worth dying for—or killing to keep.

Three can keep a secret if two of them are dead.

Employed as the nighttime security guard of Broussard Investigations, Phineas Bishop has been working through overwhelming PTSD episodes from his army service while still utilizing his military skills. But when a violent break-in occurs at the office, the accusatory eyes of the NOPD are on Phin, and he resolves to track down the intruder and clear his name.

Phin’s only lead is Cora Winslow, a spirited librarian who also needs answers. The body of her father, murdered twenty-three years ago, has just been discovered under a recently demolished building. So who has been sending her handwritten letters—written and signed by her father—every year since she was five? Someone wants to keep Cora in the dark. And now, they’re coming for her.

As Cora’s self-appointed bodyguard, Phin is surprised by his growing fondness for the woman and her fierce determination and research prowess. But New Orleans’s Garden District holds secrets as old as the streets themselves. With help from the entire Broussard P.I. team, Phin and Cora enter a labyrinth of fraud and homicide that threatens to bury them all.

Plots kept me guessing but all came together in the end!

I liked that PTSD was a strong focus, the relationships of the the characters were so supportive and caring, and that evil did not win.

Always unexpected

Love the links between previous protagonists and current. Love the NOLA background.
About the story as always smooth writing.
Love the date and time at each chapter.
As always the storyline is unpredictable.
The mindset behind the crimes are clearly defined and Ms Rose is not afraid of the dark characters.
Self preservation is key and take precedence over the lives of others. It’s scary.
I won’t give a sypnosis that’s what the summary is for instead I’m going to tell get on board for all of Karen Rose’s Romance Suspense series …. Some are hotter than others but what’s truly amazing is the characters she develops and the storylines some so creepy all compelling.
She is definitely a must read other a worthy investment of your book find.

Character Development

I continue to fall in love with these characters! Finn has to be one of my favorite leading men.

I was really looking forward to Phin’s story but it didn’t work for me.

It was a bit of a let down. I just could not get into the story, it’s a bit slow. The characters didn’t seem to fit. It did not keep my attention.

What about Jenny?

Wow, I was listening intently, more so after Phin and them visted Jenny in the mental hospital. Then, nothing. They promised to come back for a visit. Just caught myself, no spoiler...I see a missed opportunity and this portion of the story was left hanging.
Several slips where the narrator called characters by wrong name. I had to back up and listen again to portions.
Can't say much without hurting a person first listen.

not as good as the others

I thought the plot was interesting but I didn't like the female or male lead... they felt force.
