About this listen

Diviner Alex Verus finally made one too many enemies on the Council of Mages, and now one of them is angry enough to have him executed. Fighting for his life is nothing new, but this kill order also calls for the death of Alex's dependents - and there's no way that he'll let Luna, Anne, and Vari take the heat.

With only a week before he's history, Alex will have to figure out how to disassociate himself from his friends, scrounge up allies on the council, and hopefully keep his head attached to his body. But saving himself is going to bring him into direct opposition with his former master and the Dark mages surrounding him. And this time, escaping with his life might mean losing his soul....

Awesome

Alex Verus has nine lives and he has used 7. I don't know what is going to happen in the next book, but, I can't wait. There is a lot of character development among all of the characters and the relationships are shifting into twosomes instead of a foursome. This is a great book and series. I look forward to the next book.

Slow start but a terrific last half

I know what I'm getting from Benedict Jacka's books...I can never predict how they turn out or where they are going. Very enjoyable and leaves me wanting more.

Dagger nabbit

It was better than the reviews I have read, but they are also correct it is a set up book with no solution to Verus's problems, and there is not enough involvement of some of the major key players. I understand that he was forced to do some running, but he still should have had some involvement with the others. I suppose that is for the next chapter. I hope it is released sooner rather than later being as this is a cliffhanger from all get out.

What's Next';Love this series

Any additional comments?

I was deviated after reading #7. Which I did in one sitting. Main charters cant't win for losing. I could not believe, last chapter. Love these the charters. Worse things will happen for my motly crew. Please please give them a happy ending. I known it is fiction. What can they do against the Dark Mage Richard? Almost afraid to read/listen to next audiobook. Audiobook made me sad . Love it yet, very depressed what is about to my happen my crew.

Another great book in the series. But...

Another great book in the series but if your also a Jim butcher Dresden files fan you will see this as Jacka's counterpart to Changes/Ghost story.

Umpteenth Reread, Still as Excellent as ever

For those of you on the fence, let me just say, this narrator is incredible. Gildart Jackson is a treasure. Skip to Chapter 17, near the very end. The speech Morden gives to Verus is how you write a villain and is exactly the kind of quality writing you get throughout the series. But it’s best conveyed, IMO, by Mr. Jackson

And now, onto the next book…Again!

Thought it was good.

I read reviews of people who didn't really care for this book. I thought it was great I kept wondering how things were going to end and I couldn't figure it out like I could with a few of the other books. It kept on the edge a lot. I really enjoy Gilbart Jackson's narration a lot.

slippery slope!

I love these books! Jacks just keeps upping the stakes! Alex is under a death sentence in this one and to see the way he is maneuvered despite his best efforts is highly entertaining. I can't wait to see what happens next!
