About this listen

Teen Genius (and Hermit) Carrie Pilby's To-Do List:
  1. List 10 things you love (and DO THEM!)
  2. Join a club (and TALK TO PEOPLE!)
  3. Go on a date (with someone you actually LIKE!)
  4. Tell someone you care (your therapist DOESN'T COUNT!)
  5. Celebrate New Year's (with OTHER PEOPLE!)
  6. Seriously? Carrie would rather stay in bed than deal with the immoral, sex-obsessed hypocrites who seem to overrun her hometown, New York City. She's sick of trying to be like everybody else. She isn't! But when her own therapist gives her a five-point plan to change her social-outcast status, Carrie takes a hard look at herself - and agrees to try.

Suddenly the world doesn't seem so bad. But is prodigy Carrie really going to dumb things down just to fit in?

If you like inner monologue...

This book missed the mark and is one of the few occasions where the movie is actually better. It had a few clever lines but the inner monologue got old very fast and lasted waaayy toooo long. I don’t really think it is worth the time or credit and ended up skipping a lot near the end. The story never came together for me and I was just irritated with it at the end.

Good Read

I really enjoyed the book. Its about a young smart girls who is skipped 3 times in school and finds that she has a lot of catching up to do. She's rigid in her way of thinking and this leaves her depressed and alone. She has to learn that in life everything is not so absolute. Everything is not black or white.. Its really a great lesson in life. You'll enjoy this easy flowing book!

Amazing book

Not the typical book I would choose to listen to, but I believe that is what made this book so great. The story is very well written, and at least for me, easily identifiable with. I highly recommend this book for anyone needing a change in their standard, or anyone just hoping for a good book.

Amazing book

I loved this book! Decided to read it after seeing the movie on Netflix. I really fell in love with carrie’s character throughout the book as she became a better version of herself.

Thoughtful

This character, Carrie, is funny, cynical and has a lot to say about the world and her place in it. What she says really made me think about myself. It's a little dry in the middle but totally worth it. Carrie is going through a time of growth and that made me root for her! I felt like I was having a good long chat with a friend.
