Publisher's summary

Jordon is a Dungeon Master, and he liked to think that he was a decent one, after a whole year of writing and running his own home-brewed campaign. He just didn’t think he was so good at it that he could actually write a Fallen God into existence - a God that was hellbent on destroying the multiverse.

So, when a character from that very campaign shows up on Jordon's doorstep, begging for his help in saving her world, it was only responsible for Jordon to step up and save it....right?

With his Outcasts behind him, Jordon descends through the Cadinari Stream, and into a world of his own creation, finding that the life of an Adventurer is much more than improv and dice rolls. And Taldora, that world he had only seen in his dreams, was full of more wonders and mystery than even he had imagined.

A promising start

Disclaimer: I receieved this book for free from the author on reddit.

I really enjoyed the premise of the book. I think it fulfills everyone's inner storyteller. I tend to enjoy more action packed fantasy stories. So if you want a lot of action, this may not be the story for you. But I genuinely enjoyed this one. I think this series has promise and I look forward to future installments.

Strong base for a great series.

If you enjoy stories like Mistborn or playing D&D, then this book is probably for you. While the premise is what got me interested, it was the character's inner party interactions (and the narrator's performance and diversity of voices) that really got me hooked and made me care about the outcome. While there are some flaws, I think there's a lot of potential here and I can't wait to see what comes next!

DnD lovers will enjoy

Cascade was very enjoyable. The characters are relatable and easy to get attached to. The author's writing style allowed you to get fully immersed in the fantasy world he created, while the storytelling flowed effortlessly.

I also really appreciated the way the chapters were broken down. It made nice start/stop points for listening in the car.

Enjoyable!

As a newish D&D player and lover of isekai, this checked a lot of boxes for me!

Follow Jordon (the DM) and the Outcasts for a trip to a world of Jordon’s making. I enjoyed the plot and became pretty immersed and invested in their journey. The writing could have been a little stronger and the main character was a little angsty (like all teenage boys) but it was still very enjoyable.

I had no issues with the narration or confusing character voices. The narrator had a nice variety of accents and male and female voices.

This is definitely worth a listen and I’ve already started reading Book 2!

Good Fantasy D&D Based Story. Solid Narration.

I openly admit to have never played, or even witnessed, a Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) game...which I think is the structuring game for this book; nor is fantasy my top favored genre. But, I still enjoyed (and could understand) this work that follows a group of Florida high school gamers as they face the challenge of having a fantasy character come to their real life, asking for help. Its a D&D video game in narrative book form.

Narrator (Mitchell Cochran): Good. But, I recommend the narrator work on varying length and placement pauses triggered by commas and periods to provide a more flowing oral narrative. Female characterizations could also have a slightly higher pitch to make them more distinctly feminine.

Bazinga

The book was well written. I've only played a D&D style game once about 25 years ago. Zane Emerson seems to do a good job with the story and I'd guess he makes a good dungeon master. The world building and character development was well done. The narration by Mitchell Cochran was great. I could always tell which character was being portrayed.

Disclaimer: My enjoyment of the narrator is based on my listening speed. I only leave 5 stars for books I've listened to or will listen to multiple times. I'll update my review if I listen again.

Fantastic

If you enjoy the works of Brandon Sanderson and Ernest Cline's Ready Player One then I would recommend this book. I felt very submerged into the world and became attached to the characters. I can't wait till the next book comes out to find out what happens.

Loved the narrator.

DnD come alive

I really liked this book! Right from the beginning I was hooked on reading it. As someone who also wrote stories based around my own group playing DnD, it was cool seeing it done in a story.

I am looking forward to reading more!

D&D meets Jumanji

Such a creative adventure, especially if you like playing D&D, and I absolutely loved the different voices for the characters. I can’t wait to listen to the second!
