About this listen

The Strange Visitation at Wolffe Hall

The year is 1841 and Grayson Sherbrooke, a popular author of gothic paranormal mysteries, lives on the coast of Northern England with his 4-year-old-son, Pip. He's asked by a neighboring little girl, P.C., to come to Wolffe Hall because something terrible is threatening her and her mother. She's come to Grayson because she's confused him with his fictional hero, Thomas Straithmore, who overcomes all obstacles and always triumphs over otherworldly evil. Thus, to her mind, Thomas is the only one to save them. She describes the house shaking with terrifying tremors and a huge black hole she calls the Abyss appearing in the entrance hall. She also knows the menace involves her great grandfather, known as The Great. He's obsessed with collecting and returning the famous Waterloo medals to the soldiers of the great battle of 1815, but he refuses to tell anyone why he's doing it. Grayson is soon embroiled in a mystery involving a wrongful death on the battlefield at Waterloo and a paranormal force that threatens the very lives of those living in Wolffe Hall.

The Resident Evil at Blackthorn Manor

In Grayson Sherbrooke’s second Otherworldly Adventure, he goes to Scotland to Vere Castle, the home of his aunt and uncle, the Earl and Countess of Ashburnam. His aunt Sinjun had written to him that her resident ghost, Pearlin’ Jane, warned that evil was coming. But Grayson doesn’t make it to Vere Castle. He’s stopped by a mysterious carriage, a beautiful white hand extends to him, he touches it and he’s gone. When he comes to himself, he has no memory of the missing day. Pearlin’ Jane (see The Heiress Bride) warns him that Lady Blackthorn isn’t what everyone believes she is, she’s something beyond this world. Then he remembers what happened to him that lost day and knows it isn’t trouble that lurks, it’s evil.

The Ancient Spirits of Sedgwick House

When Grayson Sherbrooke takes his son Pip (nearly five), Miranda (his love interest), her daughter, P.C. (a precocious eight-year-old), and Barnaby (an orphan who calls himself a barn cat) to Lake Windemere to the home of Lord Lyle for a month of fun and relaxation, little does he know what awaits him.

Lord Lyle, a big collector of ancient Egyptian artifacts, proudly shows off his collection to Grayson before he and his wife Lucy (nearly deaf but with an inner eye) leave to return to Egypt. There's an unknown child's sarcophagus with a bizarre curse, all sorts of Egyptian statuary, and a strange golden cuff. When Grayson picks up the cuff, he is thrown into a vision in a long ago past. Bad things are happening that could threaten him and his family. He realizes he must find out who the child is in the sarcophagus. And why opening the sarcophagus would bring death.

Critic reviews

"[Anne] Flosnik's voice seems made for this eerie British spectacle. She delineates accents, including Scottish, upper- and working-class British, and Egyptian, as well as the young voices of Sherbrooke's son and two other children. The novella format and Flosnik's brisk pace make for action-packed stories…." AudioFile Magazine

Have missed the Sherbrooke’s

Been enjoying the Sherbrooke family stories for many years. Knew I had to give this a listen. SO Glad I did. Paranormal mysteries are new but the revisiting the ghost of Pearlin’ Jane was like visiting an old friend. Stories were rather quick and to the point. Mysteries rather quickly solved and resolved. Like the quirky characters and the mysteries. Hope to read more as I’d like to know what happens with PC and Barnaby. Who were Barnabys parents? Left some threads dangling...will there be more adventures for Grayson and his “family”? Hope so.

Good stories, bad narration

I really enjoyed the stories, however, the narrator was not great. She had a weird lilt to her voice and did strange pauses here and there. It was difficult to pay attention to her words.

Ruined by reader’s voice.

The Reader ruined the story. Very hard to understand. The whispery voice distracted from story.

couldn't finish

it was so boring. I can't say exactly why I feel that way, but the story didn't have enough cliffhangers. the first book showed promise in the beginning, but that second book...

Train Travel

Wonderful stories, great for train travel. Enchanting characters, and nice to hear about others in the Sherbrooke series.

short story

I am not usually a fan of a short story. they seem rushed. I read the complete series of these families years ago. it was nice to get a peek into these families again

Another Side of this Author

I had forgotten the other side of Coulter's writing. This is an eerie set of stories based in England. I don't care for the narrator, but this is an intriguing listen.
