About this listen

The chilling new psychological thriller from the bestselling author of I Am Watching You.

On a train with her husband, miles from home and their four-year-old son, Ben, Sophie receives a chilling phone call. Two boys are in hospital after a tragic accident. One of them is Ben.

She thought she could trust Emma, her new friend, to look after her little boy. After all, Emma’s a kindred spirit—someone Sophie was sure she could bare her soul to, despite the village rumours. But Sophie can’t shake the feeling that she’s made an unforgivable mistake and now her whole family is in danger.

Because how well does she know Emma, really? Should she have trusted her at all?

Time is running out. Powerless to help her child, still hours from home, Sophie is about to discover the truth. And her life will never be the same.

Liked performance. Mystery of how deep did this woman go? Some characters “thrown in” at the end.

I loved “I am Watching You” and couldn’t wait to hear this one too! This narration was too fast and too monotone... I couldn’t tell the main characters apart! It made it confusing and frustrating at times. I stuck it out because I trusted it would be a good story... and it was!

Great story/poor narration!

This was an awesome book! The story unfolded chapter to chapter, keeping my interest going. When the truth came out it really threw me. Didn't see it coming. That's a great story in my eyes. A definite plus to add in anyone's library. Really enjoyed it and feel it was well worth the money. 😀😀

What A Great Story!

I figured on the fact that the friend might be crazy. That is not exactly a spoiler. It is hinted at from page one. What I really liked was how the good people did bad things, but we still have sympathy, and even don’t mind when serious crimes are committed. There are some red herrings in there too. Clever. I like what you did, Teresa.

Not what I thought and I like it

This one actually threw me. Very well written and wonderfully performed. I love all her works!

Unexpected!

Teresa Driscoll's first novel titled I Am Watching You earned 2 stars, so I decided to give her a second chance with THE FRIEND. THE FRIEND is better but still not very good. Like her first novel the author writes this in the first person of the protagonist. Like her first novel the protagonist here does lots and lots of navel gazing in telling the story. What saves THE FRIEND is the conclusion which brings the story together and almost makes the 7 hours of boredom worthwhile. In any case I'm finished with author Teresa Driscoll.

Better than her first novel!

It was alright, but I felt like the author got fed up of the story and just wrapped it up in a super-long epilogue.

Hurried finish

Had a hard time to start, getting into this book. Audio seemed painful w narrator of choice, but as the storyline progressed I couldn’t stop reading. Thoroughly enjoyed in the end!

Hard initially

The narration was hurried and staccato throughout most of this book - especially in the beginning. I slowed it down, but then it dragged. The story itself was okay. Nothing breathtaking. It kind of meandered and I got distracted a lot and had to refocus. Not sure if that was the book’s fault or mine. The best part, by far, was the end. Just desserts.

Love the ending!
