About this listen

New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong returns to Haven’s Rock in Cold as Hell as Casey Duncan hunts down a dangerous killer during a deadly blizzard.

Haven’s Rock is a sanctuary town hidden deep in the Yukon for those who need to disappear from the regular world. Detective Casey Duncan and her husband, Sheriff Eric Dalton, are starting a family now that they’ve settled into their life here. As Casey nears the end of her pregnancy, she lets nothing, including her worried husband, stop her from investigating what happens in the forbidden forest outside the town of Haven’s Rock.

When one of the town's residents is drugged and wanders too close to the edge of town, she’s dragged into the woods kicking and screaming. She’s saved in the nick of time, but the women of the town are alarmed. Casey and Eric investigate the assault just as a snowstorm hits Haven’s Rock, covering the forest. It’s there they find a frozen body, naked in the snow. With mixed accounts of the woman's last movements, the two begin to question who they can trust—and who they can't—in their seemingly safe haven.

Love the series

A friend of mine got me started on the series in the very beginning in Rockton and can never seem to put it down or stop listening to them. Trust me you gotta read/listen to them all.

SO GOOD.

This is probably the best book in the series yet! A couple more Rockton characters have joined them at Haven’s Rock, and it’s nice to see them again.

This story is so well crafted that I will be content listening to this series several more times while I wait for the next one to come out. 😅

The narrator continues to do an excellent job bringing all these characters alive. I forget, as I listen, that it’s one woman doing all these voices because I get so lost in the story.

My SINGULAR complaint is that there quite a bit more ambient noise in the recording. It’s not something I hear when it’s coming out of a speaker, but it’s very clear when I’m listening on my headset. Little thumps and bumps likely occurring during recording effectively pull me out of the story, wondering if the thump I felt was something accidentally recorded or if there’s someone on my porch fixing to knock.

That said, the narrator is so good that I’m quickly pulled back into the story again.

Pick this book up. If you’ve loved the rest of this series, this will continue that affair, and get you all tied up in the story lines.

Amazing

Freaking sensational. The story alone was so good the characters perfect. Murder mystery thriller romance all set in the Yukon. If you haven’t read this ssries, you should. Go start with the rockton series first because it’s just that good.

So good!

I love everything about Kelley’s writing. This newest installment was devoured in a day. And loved getting to know all of the characters in Havens Rock better. And narration was impeccable.

Another winner from Kelley Armstrong

Kelley Armstrong is one of my favorite authors. She just has a way with making to feel like you are right there in the book. This was a very good read and had several twists that went straight into the end. She never ceases to amaze me.

Intense, nail-biting action

There is a very scary villain in Haven’s Rock preying on the women of the settlement. But no one should be surprised that Casey Duncan is more than equal to the chase, even heavily pregnant. I, in general, liked the narrator. The book is written in a conversational way, so her deadpan narration fits.

So suspenseful

These Rockton/Haven’s Rock books are always intense, but this one was particularly compelling! I read it in two days. I love the sense of community and talents of the characters. I recommend it!
