Publisher's summary

Three years ago, a collision between a fast-moving freight train and a school bus full of kids led to devastation and grief on an unimaginable scale. But a fresh clue leads San Antonio police detective Amara Alvarez to the unlikely conclusion that one of the children may still be alive. If she's correct, everything law enforcement believes about the accident is a lie.

With time running out, Amara must convince others - and herself - that despite all evidence to the contrary, the boy lives. And she will do everything in her power to bring him home.

A fresh voice in suspense, Tom Threadgill will have you questioning everything as you fly through the audio of this enthralling story.

great read

No big twists but a good detective story. Characters were amiable and believable. Narration was well done.

Something different but great

The narrator put me off a bit at first, but I got used to her. What a story!!! A fake train/school bus disaster years ago. The only ones still thinking about it are the grieving parents. The tenacious detective who starts the ball rolling to figure out that children are in peril. Lots of interesting characters. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

My new favorite author

Listen to all Threadwell's Audible books in one week. He proved he could handle another main character, a woman at that. He has constructed compelling, well rounded characters dealing with moral dilemmas and reasoning out investigations with realistic ability and determination. This author keeps the reader's attention without profanity or sexuality.

Great

I loved it it was great. I thought it was even better than the Jeremy Winter series and I didn't think that would happen. Thinking about even listening to it again

What an amazing story.

The premise of the story was excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the detective and all the characters were very real. the author did a great job with a female point of view. The narrator was excellent was a variety of voices. I found myself sitting in parking lots not wanting to quit the story as I was listening to it in my car. great job.

Good clean murder/suspense

Really like this author. His Jeremy Winter novels focus more on criminal minds / serial killer suspense. This book is crime from a different angle. Being a mom, I had a hard time with some content because I could imagine what the parents were going through. There is only one point where I preferred a different path from the author, but you will have to complete the entire book to know what that is. Will look forward to more from Tom Threadgill.

Interesting story well presented

Story is a bit far-fetched but worth a listen. Good well-developed characters. Very likable protagonist.

Gender Equality meets Good Story

So if you don't care for authors who virtue signal by writing a story that CLEARLY is intended to illustrate the most current "cool kids" position on things, well this may rub you the wrong way. Clearly, this author wants you to know that Women are tough, leaders, make excellent cops and moms. and are DEFINITELY NOT afraid of lizards.
IF you can deal with virtue signaling cool kids authors that actually write a good story that is technically solid on police procedures and thought processes, well GIVE THIS ONE A TRY. I promise the politics of the message are pretty benign. While the clear message of "Women Can Do It As Good As Men Can" is there (for the record, I have no quarrel with the premise), they don't make all the male characters idiots to make the point (as so often they feel they need to do). In fact, in this book, just because all of the "heroes" of the story (both lead Detectives, the Mom that pushes the idea her son is alive, the female FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader, the lead Tech/Computer Specialist) are female, males are strong and most important - they are ALL believable in their roles and they ALL get along well and work as a team. So in my world, no harm, no foul. In fact I often get annoyed because the political message is so forced that common sense and actual police procedures and concerns are no where to be found. In this case, every time I thought I found a logic hole, the author addressed it and accounted for it brilliantly.
I was very surprised and engaged to the end. I hope there are more from this team. I truly came to like the cast of characters.
Nicely Done!
