Publisher's summary

In this volume, book six of the Colony Ship Conestoga series, conflict erupts in a myriad of places and ways.

Jerome and Cammarry, the adventurers from Earth, are still trying to piece together what all has happened to the Colony Ship Conestoga.

The slave revolt in Habitat Alpha is continuing. The various systems of the ship are broken, half-working, or just frustratingly difficult to get operational. The enigmatic inhabitants of the alien world, Zalia, are potential threats, and more mysteries than ever are surrounding all attempts to make things work.

But sometimes the deepest and most painful conflicts are not physical. Conflict can take other forms as well; some will not survive the conflicts on the Conestoga.

Great Story. Narration improves

Fantastic story in itself. Great part of continuing story. Narrator reads characters more naturally than other narrators which I a plus.
The negative is that the narrator reverts to reading the AI Sandy's words as a stilted old timey 1950s version of an unthinking robot rather than an advanced AI capable of voice inflection and personality.
By chapter 6 the narrator added elongated syllables at random while reading Sandy. The effect is she sounds both bored and disconnected and it makes it extremely difficult to listen to anything spoken by this character. Other AI in the reading sound like Daleks. Otherwise the reading flowed quite well and human dialog was read enjoyably.

Good solid Sci-Fi

Another book in the series and it is as good as all the previous ones. Book 6 doesn't disappoint lots of action and many questions that were raised in the previous books are answered (not all).
Can't wait for book 7.
Narration is clear and strong.

Bring Lauren Holladay back as narrator!

I am a huge fan of John Thornton's books, but this is the last one I am going to waste my money on, not because the story isn't good. The narrator's are terrible! I've listened to all of the books in this series up to this one and, with the exception of Lauren Holladay (books three and four), the readers sound amateurish, there is noise in the audio and sentences repeated. I would suggest that the publishers find performers who are actual professionals. As much as I like Mr. Thornton's work, he has lost me because of his narrators. I'm a member of a Sci Fi audio book group (we suggest good Sci Fi to read or listen to). I will be warning them not to waste their money or credit on this series unless it's only for book 3 or 4... which won't make much sense if they don't hear the whole series. It's important for people listening with ear buds that there isn't crackling noise and irritating voices.

It's a shame that such a good writer doesn't seem to care what his audio books sound like.
