About this listen

Everyone thinks their cats are special - but Owen and Hercules have powers that go far beyond an adorable look or an irresistible purr. Along with their owner, librarian Kathleen Paulson, they have an uncanny instinct for solving crimes...

It's been raining cats and dogs in Mayville Heights. The small town's been deluged, and now the local artists' co-op is on the verge of flooding. Kathleen has been up all night helping her friends move their creations to the safety of the upstairs studio.

The artwork survives, but when controversial mask maker Jaeger Merrill is found drowned in the co-op basement, Kathleen questions whether the death was accidental. After she discovers the artist was using an assumed name, she realizes she can't actually assume anything about him. With the help of handsome detective Marcus Gordon - and her cats' extraordinary powers of detection - it's up to Kathleen to unmask a killer.

When a very pushy artist ends up face down in the artist co-op flooded basement, people began to ask questions. When the Librarian tumbles into a grave site, questions have to be answered.
Now it is time for Hercules and Owen to do their magic and locate tibits of clues and put their librarian in harms way. Her friend learns the truth about her biological dad, a quilting group and the ruthless lawyer Peter.
One thing is certain about the time the reader puts the pieces together is about the same time our librarian puts all the pieces together. Will she go boldly into danger or has she learned to call Marcus, the local police detective? Will she tell Marcus how she feels about him?

This is the third book of this series I have read. I liked the first two a little better than this one.

This book seemed to drag a little for me. The plot is good and I wasn't able to guess the final outcome ahead of time. I am not a person who needs fast paced, thrill a minute stories. However, the pace was a little too leisurely for me.

In earlier books there were more events going on and more new and ineresting characters involved.

Cassandra Campbell is an excellent narrator.

Cozy for Cat Lovers

This is a quick read with a well written and well plotted story line. The main characters are easy to like and very realistic. The mystery is interesting and fast paced. As for the cats, they might be growing on me. Owen and Hercules add lots of humor to the story. I enjoyed listening to this and will listen to the next book if Audible acquires it.

This has a couple of mysteries in on book. This is a series that builds on the characters with each book. It can be read out of order but to get full impact read each one. The cats help with clues and book has lots of twist & turns to keep you interested. The person narrating does a great job of changing voices so you don't have to guess who is talking. Another great listen.

This story was good and I didn’t figure out the bad guy until the end. The narrators voice was very slow but I up to speed to 1 1/2 and it sounded closer to normal and didn’t grate on me. No regrets, I liked the story. It did seem like the other author wrote “I said “or “she said “an awful lot. There has to be other ways to transition speakers.

Good story but “I said” too much.
