Publisher's summary

The award-winning saga begins a new chapter!

Edwin Windsor, Efficiency Consultant for Supervillains, attempts to tame a rage-fueled Crazy Psycho Murder Tree hell-bent to revenge itself on meat-kind.

He delegates much of the job to his most recent hire, underdog, defense attorney, and literal little guy, Talmadge Haggleblat. But when Talmadge finds himself caught between the highly privileged social justice vigilante "The Lynx" and the Crazy Psycho Murder Tree itself, will he be crushed in the undergrowth, or will he find a way to succeed in evil?

Fun Story!

I first found this author through his very entertaining and wonderfully read story “The Merchant Adventurer”. This story lived up to my expectations!
Funny, imaginative, and with a lot of humanity, it was a great listen!

Gotta love crazy, evil silliness.

I thoroughly enjoy all the stories that Patrick E McLean writes. They are creative, funny, and have some of the best dialogue. Thank you Patrick!

As always your work is a delight to read

I am glad to see new works from you. You are one of my top three authors I enjoy reading.

[That said, I did notice some errors in the audio. Specifically, You have two chapter 5s, the first chapter 5 being the proper sixth chapter (atleast your amazon ebook has it ordered as such. Plus making more sense to have the fight before the shortened version.), and the second chapter 5 being the proper fifth chapter but is in the place of chapter six. If this seems confusing then; yes, yes it is.

Also in chapter 17, towards the end, there is a leftover repeat that wasn't properly removed. It happens shortly before 'spork' is mentioned.]

Back to the review. I find it tragic, that the professor in the end became the very thing that inadvertently killed him, in both ways. I loved the mockery of the hypocrisy that some portray, as well as the fetishization of victimhood.

Topper's development makes some of his earlier comments in previous works seem abit weird but also makes why Topper is so obsessed with Winsor fit so much better. In truth, Topper was more of a client, than a personal lawyer atfirst and shows how things work out for people that take The Evil Consultant's advice to heart.

The origins of Topper

Still a great universe, would love a miniseries or a properly done show also. I but this is an origin of one of the best characters, Edwin is the strait man in the group, but Topper is the physical comedian.
Can't wait for more of this universe.

Origin of Topper

Long time fan of Edwin Windsor and Topper. Glad to hear how they started. Looking forward to the next How to Succeed in Evil book!

The birth of topper

This story is an excellent addition to the efficient application of evil. Unfortunately the author allowed the quality of his product to slip. The price compared to length creates an expectation of top shelf merchandise. While slight there are background noises, and several bobbles in delivery.

Extremely entertaining and satisfying.

I'm so glad to be back in this world. I've been a fan of How to Succeed in Evil since the earliest podcasts (oh, how I wish I still had copies of those...), and it's nice to return to Edwin Windsor, Topper, and the inept supers of this version of reality. McLean has honed his storytelling abilities to even greater heights, and no one can read his characters as well as he can.
This story takes things back far enough to see the origin of Evil Efficiency's violent lawyer, and we get to enjoy several new incompetent villains, a clumsy hero, and one awesome butler.
While I always enjoy McLean's readings, I wish he's edit out the few falterings, as they take me out of the moment. Otherwise, this audiobook is one of my new favorites!
