About this listen

"Autumn gone off to sleep

And winter her secrets no more keep

Rises he from the deep

Flesh to flay and flesh to eat"

Twelve days of Christmas. Twelve days of terror and death.

An ancient evil prowls the quiet streets of Wixcombe. An old man is murdered in the town square. Children disappear in the night. Villagers report sightings of Krampus, the Christmas demon.

For siblings Nan and William Fitzgerald, the season began with a promise of new loves and Christmas magic. But they find themselves in the eye of the storm when their godfather becomes the prime suspect in the killings.

To protect both the women they love and their village, the siblings must discover Krampus’ true identity.

But they might not like the answers they find...

Great Story

This was a great story with an awesome narration. The story held my attention and was easy to get back into after a break. Will be an even better listen at Halloween and/or Christmas.

A most enjoyable read

Crimson Yuletide, my sixth enjoyable read from author Rachel Ford. This book is so well-written & enjoyable, although nI'm not sure of the genre. Mystery? Horror? Suspense? I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. Lynne Ennis’s narration adds greatly to the book's enjoyment. "I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Naughty Children Beware

Title: Crimson Yuletide
Author: Rachel Ford
Format: Audio
Narrator: Lynne Ennis
Genre: historical, horror, holiday (Christmas)
Standalone: Yes
Part of a Series: I don’t think so
POV: William, Nanette
Steam Level: clean - some kissing
5/5

Crimson Yuletide is a suspenseful horror with a touch of regency romance (both M/F and F/F) set during the holidays. Part whodunnit and part paranormal, Crimson Yuletide kept me guessing. I liked the unique brother/sister POV and the cranky Godfather and protective older brother aspects and how the female characters were not having any of it. This was a fun story.

I received this audiobook for free from StoryOrigin. This is my honest and voluntary review.

xd

I loved listening to this book, it was very interesting. This was one of the many books I listened to as I lay bedridden in pain from surgery, This is one of my late reviews but I still felt like I should post about this book.

The narrator does a great job using a different tone for each of the characters.

Lots of intrigue in the book and some twists you wont see coming. Rachel as always seems to excel at all the books I have read or listened to.

I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Be Good or Else

Krampus will be there. Lovely Christmas story of adventure and betrayal of love, or finding a love.

Very enjoyable!

I haven't gone wrong yet with a book by Rachel Ford and I highly doubt I ever will! I'm not a horror fan, so I was delighted that, while this book certainly had me plenty invested and tense and hoping everyone doesn't die in the end, it didn't get so heavy and horrible that I felt icky and regretted listening to it. In fact, I could enjoy the whole thing, there were laugh out loud moments, tense moments, fun moments, disturbing moments. Just great :)

Don't let the cheesy cover art turn you off

I admit being turned off by the cover but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. While the murder mystery genre isn't my favorite, I really enjoyed the ride. If you're a A. Christie fan, you probably will too.

Even though the villain is the mythical Krampus, it somehow avoids almost all the supernatural flavor. It is a murder mystery "who dunnit" through and through. There's a full cast of colorful characters. Each one is well fleshed out and relatable.

There is a lesbian romance but it is not a main focus of the book. It's also a very innocent and wholesome background 'ship. But honestly, I found that refreshing. If Disney decided to write a coming of age lesbian story amidst a wave of fatal animal attacks, it would be exactly this.

The narrator is shockingly talented. There are a lot of characters and she somehow makes you totally forget only one person is reading. Seriously. In a dialogue heavy scene, she goes from a natural teen girl voice, to a curmudgeonly old man to a squeaky tween boy flawlessly. I am beyond impressed with her range and style.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book a lot even though it's not a genre I pick often. If you're a mystery fan, I highly recommend it. Don't dismiss it solely because of the whole silly bad Santa aspect. It's not a central point at all.

Fun. Unexpected. Wholesome. Interesting. Family friendly. Highly recommend.

Loved it!!

This was a great mystery. I really enjoyed the story and the narration really brought it to life. I was pulled into the story and didn’t want to stop listening until the end . I loved the strong female characters in the story. I’ll definitely look for other books by this author!
