About this listen

Lady Arabella Blydon has beauty and a brain, and she's tired of men who can see only one without the other.

When a suitor tells Arabella he's willing to overlook her appalling bluestocking tendencies on account of her looks and fortune, she decides to take a break from the Marriage Mart. During an extended stay in the country, she never expects to meet Lord John Blackwood, a wounded war hero who intrigues her like no other man.

Lord John has lived through the worst horrors of war, but nothing could have been as terrifying to his tormented heart as Lady Arabella. She is intoxicating, infuriating, and she makes him want to live again. Suddenly he's writing bad poetry and climbing trees in the pitch-dark night just so he can dance with her as the clock strikes midnight. And even though he knows he can never be the sort of man she deserves, he can't help wanting her. But when the harsh light of day replaces the magic of midnight, can this tormented soul learn to love again?

Main female lead underwhelming

Arabella or Belle was the most annoying heroine I have ever encountered it was hard to route for her.

good story

bad narration. Rayner didn't know which character was speaking. or when the story telling began. her voice had inflection when it shouldn't and there was just no getting through it. I need to send it back. get the Kindle edition and leave this version alone.

Trigger warning !!!!!

If you are the type to have sensitivity to very dark topics skip it.

Overall enjoyable read but very upsetting scene that is reference multiple times. Just thought it would have been easier to read this story if I had known about it before hand.

Story line

Performance. The falsetto Voice for Belle was rather distracting and uneven in reading. Quinn’s books are usually much better.

Nor as good as others by this author

I couldn't wait for this story to be over. The basic story was great, and I laughed at times. The accents grinded on my nerves, though... all of the men's voices were mostly drawn out too slow and the women's voices were so bubbly and happy sounding even when they were talking about something bad. Belle's voice is like nails on a chalkboard, even in the first book. A whole book about her with this voice made me want it to hurry and be done. Dunford's voice is so slow and drawn out that I'm really thinking about not listening to the next book at all since it's all about him.

Oh the narrator......

I have this book and have read it multiple times. When I saw there was an audio version now I was excited. That quickly change in the first 15 min. The narrators chosen voice for the heroine was so high pitched ad hauty.. Better suited for a meddling aunt or someone snobbish.
