Publisher's summary

An EMP devastated the world. Now life is a brutal battle for survival....

When a powerful EMP blast knocks out power across the country, Molly, former Marine bus driver, Colton, and the five students they’re supervising are trapped inside a prison, surrounded by hardened criminals and with no safe exit. And it doesn’t take long for a riot to throw everything into even more chaos.

Molly and Colton must find a way to escape with their charges, even if it means trusting a prisoner who may be using them for his own secret agenda.

Once outside the prison, they discover that the world is just as dangerous, as local townspeople fight over dwindling supplies and shelter. Molly will do anything to protect her students. But can she lead them to safety as what’s left of the world collapses around them?

Loyalties are tested, new bonds are forged, and survival is a daily battle in a dying world. This boxset contains books 1-3 of the Dark Nation series, a thrilling post-apocalyptic trilogy.

Great story as usual!

Grace Hamilton is an amazing story teller! Andrew Tell is an amazing narrator. So with this combination you are sure to enjoy this story.
I loved the characters. Molly is definitely a force to be reckoned with or maybe not to be.
She is a fighter and stands up for what is good and right. She takes on kids as her own and makes sure the misguided misfits are safe. In doing so they become her family.
I think they would eventually be in much more danger for the prisoners who continue to make their way out of the prison. I guess if she ever wanted to she could expand on this series. That being said it wrapped up nicely. (Spoiler)
I find it hard to believe Diego could have such a huge change of heart, attitude and behavior but I guess the absence of his daughter made his heart grow fonder as they say. He was the perpetrator of many crimes and deaths. I wouldn’t be able to forgive him.

A new twist to surviving and EMP.

The author really gave people a new perspective of surviving an EMP. She was brilliant at putting students in the prison for a scared straight field trip. The intense action, drama and suspense keeps you listening. You just have to find out if these kids will get out alive, and if they do can they make it home. This is a great story and I am sure you will love it as much as I did.

I received a free audiobook code in exchange for my honest review.

very sad story

The performers were great! The story was so liberal it was hard to listen to knowing in real life nothing like this would ever happen The school teacher was just liberal . I listen to the whole book to give it a fair chance but if you like survival novels this is not a good one

Is this like an anti Tylenol book?

The book started okay but the author must have some issue with medication as it’s like every 5 seconds there is some comment about pain medication like even otc stuff like Tylenol and ibuprofen and it’s just redundant. I get it you don’t like pills but this could be the end of the known civilization but Tylenol is the problem. Like o I found a bag of pills then let’s just get rid of them? I mean I’m used to dumb MCs but 3 characters are like omg pills!!! Also the storyline is a bit slow and boring at times. Andrew Tell as always is great at narrating. Just hope it gets more interesting and or something. Also I get everyone in this book is sober but if it’s the end of the world as you know it you should keep every resource you can get. Pain meds are needed and so are antibiotics. Also would be nice to get some scope of the damage done. I realize maybe they wouldn’t be able to find out what happened if it was the whole area or country but unless it’s the whole world just an emp would only take the country down for say about a year before some form or organization would take place.

Good

This book is about relationships not surviving. Not sure about complete turnarounds in some people.

written for children

no teacher would ever leave a child behind. no Marine would leave a child behind. no father would leave another child behind after going after his own. the prisoners were very mild mannered overall. not sure the author understands human nature. i bought the whole series for a credit and am stopping with 17 hours left. i tried but I can't get into this any farther. this is a great book for kids though. it will totally keep their innocence.

Another great one

Another great series by Grace. Keep them coming. They are always great. Different points of view for possible scenarios are more than entertainment, they’re learning opportunities.

A PG rated story

The story is ok and plot similar to many of the genre. As a box set I feel it’s worth a credit. My main criticism is is a bit unbelievable in some plot points that don’t ruin the story for me but I find to be hard to take seriously. On the positive side of this it would be a good YA story. This book doesn’t have any real vulgarity or violence.

Mixed feelings. Great writing but a lot of it depressing.

I have mixed feelings about the book. I think the narrator is fantastic for a guy (I’m partial to female narrators for the most part). The story is also pretty believable. I’m familiar with addicts and dysfunctional people from working in psych and substance abuse so I can tell the author is too. I think it’s very well written but pretty depressing. I could only listen to a couple hours of it because there was just a lot of manipulation, addiction focus, etc. But if that kind of thing doesn’t bother you or you find interesting this will be a good read. I’m just sensitive to bleak situations that only get more messed up or bleaker if that makes sense. Lol.
