Publisher's summary

Susan Michaels was once the hottest reporter on the Beltway Beat until a major scandal ruined her life and left her writing stories about alien babies and Elvis sightings. Life as she once knew it is over, or so she thinks, but then she gets a lead on a story that could salvage her extinct career. She heads to the local animal shelter, expecting a hot news tip, which she gets in the form of a major police cover-up...for a ring of soul-sucking vampires out to take over Seattle. So much for saving her credibility. And if that isn't bad enough, she gets talked into adopting a cat and finds she's allergic to it. A cat that turns out to be a shapeshifter who claims to be an immortal vampire slayer on the prowl for the same corrupt cops.

Her first thought: Seek professional help. But as Susan's drawn into Ravyn's dark and dangerous world, she comes to realize that there's a lot more at stake than just her defunct career. Now it's no longer a question of bringing the truth to her readers; it's a matter of saving their very lives and souls.

Ravyn's life was shattered over 400 years ago, when he mistakenly trusted the wrong human with the truth of his existence. He lost his family, his honor, and his life. Now, in order to save the people of Seattle, he's forced to confront that nightmare all over again and to trust another woman with the secret that could destroy him. In the world of the Dark-Hunters, life is always dangerous. But never more so than now, when a very human woman can shatter their entire world with just one story. The only question is...will she?

Not a fan of this narrator

I love the story, I love all her books and past Narrators, especially Fred Berman whom i truly wish was the narrator to this installment

great book

Kenyon continues to add more to her already great dark hunter series. Lots of new characters but appearances of old.

Thank Goodness!!!!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes, if you're into the dark hunter series

What does Holter Graham bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

While he's a little off with his characters, and the continuity of those characters, he was a familiar voice, and the unabridged version of this book was very welcome.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

you bet!

Any additional comments?

I hope you guys re do all the other horrible renditions of the series with Holter....Dream Warrior, Fantasy Lover, The first two or three dark hunter books, night embrace, night pleasures, etc.

Still going strong!

Yes, the change in narrator made it a little more difficult to get into this book since Fred has really breathed life into the characters and world we've enjoyed listing too. Nothing against Holter Graham, he's actually a fabulous narrator, but his voices and pronounciation of names and other words were different in most cases making it hard to pick up where the last book left off. I caught myself correcting him out loud on a number of occasions.

With that said, I still enjoyed this story even thou this series is very cookie cutter. Troubled hunter meets girl who teaches him how to love again while the daemons cause trouble. Even so, I still enjoy these books. My heart goes out to Acheron, he has such a heavy burden to carry and always seems to get this sh*t end of the stick. Nick also has made a choice in anger and grief that will no doubt be his undoing. Looking forward to what happens next!

Other PRN books I think are fantastic are anything by Jeaniene Frost, Heather Hunter's Irin Chronicles (really beautifully written and narrated), Dianne Duvall's Immortal Guardian Series, Jacqueline Frank's Nightwalker Series, Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter Series, J. D. Tyler's Alpha Pack Series and Tessa Dawn's Blood Curse series (very dark take on vampires). Patricia Brigg's Alpha and Omega series is really good too, thou more just paranormal than a PRN, romance is subtle but totally worth a listen unless you require steam. Most of these are available in the Romance Package which is a bonus if you like to binge.

Narration was bad

Thank goodness the story was good. It was a struggle to separate the characters when they were in groups. I typically enjoy this narrator.

Dark Side of the Moon

This is my favorite of all the books in the series. I've read the book several times so I know for a fact the writing is fantastic and the story is amazing.
BUT the narrator, in my opinion sounded like the godfather. I could actually see puffed out cheeks while he spoke!
Raven's voice, even when mad, shoud be soft sexy with a purr that could make shivers run up the readers back, settling in the mind with expectation..
I'm not saying Holter Graham isn't a good narrator, but should read books along the line of mafia and crime dramas. His voice isn't right for a paranormal romance

Love this series! Have listened multiple times.

The Dark Hunter series is the perfect mix of romance, action and humor. Holds your interest while making you swoon. Narration is fantastic. I have listened to this series more than once, which is a rarity for me.

Torn

The basic premise of the book is the same as the others. However, this one has some nice twists you don't see coming. There is an inconsistency also, with Ravyn, I won't say what to not spoil anything but at the end, after a phone call Susan has, there's an inconsistency. Also, Nick is a bleeping idiot and our favorite demon doesn't show up in this book.
