About this listen

An Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal best-selling series.

Kate Marshall’s investigation into a journalist’s disappearance sends her down an unexpectedly twisted path in a riveting thriller by the author of Shadow Sands.

Kate Marshall’s fledgling PI agency takes off when she and her partner, Tristan Harper, are hired for their first big case. It’s a cold one. Twelve years before, journalist Joanna Duncan disappeared after exposing a political scandal. Most people have moved on. Joanna’s mother refuses to let go.

When Kate and Tristan gain access to the original case files, they revisit the same suspects and follow the same leads - but not to the same dead ends. Among Joanna’s personal effects, Kate discovers the names of two young men who also vanished without a trace.

As she connects the last days of three missing persons, Kate realizes that Joanna may have been onto something far more sinister than anyone first believed: the identity of a serial killer hiding in plain sight. The closer Kate comes to finding him, the darker it’s going to get.

Good story development and moderate amount of menacing.

I like the change of story line in this book. Nine Elms scared the pants off me, which I put into the Alienist and Devil in the White City category. Two of my other favorites. Kate the central character was more methodical and not constantly on the defense in this story. I look forward to this author’s book and always purchase in advance. I enjoy different psychological aspects of the bad guys. The narration was perfect with the right amount of accent changes to keep characters separated and flow of excitement and calmness. I foresee a return of Jake’s dad in the next book or so. Keep writing Robert, I will keep listening.

Love this installment of the Kate Marshall series

A great continuation of the Kate Marshall series - such an interesting character and story. Great twist - as all thrillers should have - and interesting tie-in with earlier installments. Narration is perfect - superb voice performance.

Love this Series

I have read all of this author’s books. When this new series started I was sure it would real
Me in and I would anxiously wait for the next book. I have not been disappointed! This book was excellent keeping me guess till the end once again. The bad thing is now I have to wait for the next book to see how the detective agency is getting along and if Tristan becomes an Uncle in the next installment in this series

Robert Bryndza does it again!

Another gripping addition to the Kate Marshall series. My only regret is how quickly I finished it 😅

Great till the last sentence

Yet another fantastic book written by one of my favorite authors. Kristin is an amazing narrator and I loved every minute of this gripping story. Have listened to every book in both his detective series and can’t wait for the next one to come out.

Astonishing

What made this book fantastic: excellent plot, deep mysteries, top notch detective work, engaging lead characters.

What was not to my taste: graphic sexual violence.
Also, Bryndza's books deserve a narrator with a less flat voice.

Overall: Bryndza is great at capturing dialogue and creating scary atmosphere. A nice touch in this book is how the terrain, sea, and erratic weather echo and shape the action.

In sum, once I started listening it was very hard to stop.

Good listen

Narration was great and the overall story was entertaining it did get a little slow in spots and I at times had a hard time keeping up with who was who. Again, overall definitely worth the listen.

Narrator

Story was good (though I guessed who too early) My main issue was the melodramatic reading. For me, it totally detracted from the story. Several character’s voices were so awful, I nearly gave up and wanted to return the book. At the dramatic climax the reader sounded near hysteria. If the reader makes or breaks a book for you, be warned.
