About this listen

Demelza is a heartwarming, gripping, and utterly entertaining saga that brings to life an unforgettable cast of characters and one of the greatest love stories of our age.

An impoverished miner's daughter, Demelza Carne is now married to Ross Poldark, who once rescued her from a fairground brawl. Her efforts to adapt to the ways of the gentry - and her husband - place her in hilarious and embarrassing situations, through which she becomes self-assured, mannered, and lovely, and the birth of her first child brings a joy she never experienced before.

But tragedy strikes where least expected, and sows the seeds of an enduring rivalry for Ross Poldark and the powerful George Warleggan, and tests Ross and Demelza's marriage and their love....

Demelza is one of my most favorite Poldark characters. Her honesty and unwavering love toward Ross is tested in ways I cannot imagine, yet Demelza displays the fortitude of a miner's daughter with the class of the gentry she has become. Another win for Graham, this book easily sent me running for book three.

Demelza rises above her station and into your heart.

It's been months and I am starting book twelve after reading The Twisted Sword. I am spell bound and full of the emotions of the characters in this incredible story of the Poldark family and people in the lives. I am most enjoying the historical timeline of the series with details I find myself looking further into. Bravo!

This one took me a while to get into. So many plots and characters had me a little disoriented in the beginning but I stuck with it. When I finally finished the story I felt like it was just ok overall and felt like I spent too much time on this one for what it was worth. Performances were good though and that’s probably what kept me going.

Lots of characters

Very engaging! I could not stop reading. And now I feel close to the characters of the book and have to continue reading. “Binge reading” it is!

Enjoyed the history of Cornwall mining and the struggles of that hard life. Touched by Dezmelda's growth as a character. Side stories were excellent as well. Love this series.

More than a romance novel.
