About this listen

Upon her father's death, beautiful, headstrong Lady Clare knew that she must wed, for the protection of the Isle of Desire now fell to her. Yet when her guardian's choice of prospective husband rode through her castle gates, she felt utterly betrayed. All sinewy muscle and savage steel, Sir Gareth of Wyckmere was not the poet she'd requested but a fearsome knight whose only interest was in war.

Legions of robbers had fallen beneath the Hellhound of Wyckmere's sword, and now this bold warrior was certain that he could tame one willful wife. Yet even Gareth could not deter Lady Clare from trying to mold him into her ideal...until their clash of wills ignited a passion that set them both aflame...and a treacherous plot put their lives in deadly peril.

Entertaining!

"Desire" is a cute love story about a landless Knight and the Lady of Desire who, not interested in marriage, must marry after her father and brother were killed. Writing to her guardian, Lord Wyckmere , she requested a poet, a man of average size, What she got was Sir Gareth Wyckmere, the bastard son of her guardian; a huge man of sinewy muscle and savage steel.

It was a humorous tale of a headstrong Lady and a fearsome Knight known as the :Hellhound of Wyckmere".

It's a light, enjoyable story, well narrated by Anne Flosnik.

Meh

Amanda/Jayne is good writer so the construction of the story is not the issue. Moreover, I truly love that the book is set in Medieval times as opposed to the (yawn) Regency era, but the female protagonist is so incredibly whiny, simple-minded, and annoying; she’s the early-modern equivalent of a self-important influencer. I really didn’t give a rat’s rear about her.

Look, I know romance is escape and stories need to be palatable to the modern reader, but the historical anachronisms were just too much—she was constantly trying to prove that she’s a “modern woman,” unfortunately this manifested as petty whining & unreasonability.

Takeaway: You can be a dingbat and get some schmuck to fall in love with you if you are wealthy enough.

She's Back!

I used to think no one could write a sizzling love scene the way Amanda Quick did, but had given up on her as her books seemed to be getting quite "tepid". She proved me wrong with this one. The story line is predictable, but isn't that what we want from these types of romance novels? Keep em coming Amanda!

Desire review

I love the book but did not like the reader. She tried to create different voices for the characters but they all sounded very similar and the male characters still sounded too feminine for my taste. In addition, the accent the reader used was distracting. Not sure if this is her real accent or one affected for the book. Either way for me it took away from the story. And the emotions the characters were supposed to be showing were not reflected in the tones the reader used while reading.

the end is a bit hokey but good overall

The story is entertaining and the characters are interesting. The dialog was odd at times with the older English words tossed in.

It's not a work of art, especially the ending, but worth a listen.

While there were a few surprises. this story followed the tried and true formula. i love Amanda Quick and probably read this when it first came out but it wasn't satisfying this time. i didn't care fir the reader. nade a melodrama even more melodramatic

Desire...

I liked the book but there were definitely weird parts. Claire had a good heart but was totally childish at times. The whole thing about her wedding night was rather silly. The couple have to bicker everything out which is sort of annoying but also a little endearing.

the lady and the knight

Independently minded lady is being sold off to an unknown knight with a dangerous reputation who really wants what's being offered. Good breezy read.
