Publisher's summary

Bloomsbury presents Destroy the Day by Brigid Kemmerer, read by Chase Brown, Christopher Ragland and Lexie McDougall.

In the thrilling conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Defy the Night series, Brigid Kemmerer crafts heartrending twists and devastating turns that will keep readers breathless to the very end.

Left for dead, but desperate to survive . . . they have one last chance to save their kingdom.

Prince Corrick is out of options. Held captive by the vicious Oren Crane, he’s desperate to reunite with Tessa, but will need to ally with the rebel leader Lochlan, who until now wished him dead. An unlikely but deadly pair, Corrick and Lochlan must plot their next moves carefully. . .

An island away, Tessa Cade is heartbroken and angry. Grieving Corrick, and unsure how to find a way back to Kandala, she doesn’t know who to trust. Until Rian—the man she trusts least—makes an offer: aid in a plot to finally oust Oren Crane and see what the future holds. . .

Meanwhile in Kandala, Harristan is dethroned and on the run. He’s struggling to unite the rebels in his fractured kingdom, but he finds support—and maybe more—in unexpected places.

Can Harristan be the king his people need? Can Corrick and Tessa find their way back to each other? As outside threats loom and the fires of revolution burn from within, time is running out to save their kingdom.

Good story

I enjoyed all three books. The story took some twist and turns. The characters were easy to relate to and enjoyed their growth.

Good, but rushed

Good but not great like the others in the series. Felt like the author was rushed

A perfect end to the series!

This was everything I could have asked for to end the series. Once I hit about 70% I started to worry there wasn’t enough book left for everything to wrap up and that maybe this wouldn’t be a trilogy after all, but Kemmerer managed it beautifully. No notes. I simply loved these characters and getting to see them grow and evolve throughout. I laughed, I cried, I giggled and exclaimed. The perfect ending to an excellent series.

Specific to narration - I really enjoyed all three narrators throughout each of the books, I think they did a fantastic job. It did make me laugh a few times that Quint’s voice was massively different from one narrator to the other, but it didn’t bother me much. I still loved the character with my whole heart.

An AMAZING finish to a great series

I was eagerly WAITING for this book to come out and I snapped it up the day it was released and ended up reading through the night to finish it. I didn't mean to, but I just kept thinking...."one more chapter..." (isn't that how it always is...?)

There are minor spoilers from the prior books ahead - none from this book, but in case you haven't finished books 1 and 2...you are warned.

Let me just say that it was TOTALLY worth it! I think I ran the gamut of emotions while reading/listening to this and THAT, I wasn't expecting. Without going into spoilers, this book begins immediately where the last book left off. We have Prince Corrick and Lochlan presumed dead and stranded on one of the islands - as a captive of Oren Crane. Then there is Tessa and Eric Rocco. They both think that the men are dead and they also have to deal with being stranded on another of the islands without an easy way to get back to Kandara. And to say Tessa is ANGRY at Rian would be a HUGE understatement. HUGE.

Then there are things on the home front. King Harristan is hiding in exile in the Wilds while there are rumors everywhere that he was poisoning his people and has fled the palace to avoid being hanged. Things are becoming extremely dire.

So- that's all the info I'm going to give (and that was all given in the last book so it is not any new information ) because you really have to go into this without knowing what is going to happen. That way you can experience the events as they happen. Trust me. But one word of warning, it really is an emotional roller coaster.

The fact that Ms. Kemmerer made me fall in love with so many characters and really FEEL so much as things happened to them is a mark of a fantastic author. The relationships in this book are what take it to another level. Then, not only do you have these amazing relationships, but you have such character growth from so many of the different characters. Almost every one of the main and major secondary characters goes through so much growth as the events unfold. The love between the brothers is such a pure love that you feel it in your heart. Gosh, there is so much I could say, but...remember, you need to experience things as they happen.

This is NOT a stand alone book. You NEED to go back to book one if you have not already read the first 2 books and start from there. You will NOT understand the depth of these relationships and the journey that all of them have made if you start from here and believe me, you WANT to experience that.

This is one series that left me so happy that I was able to be a part of it. That is truly such a great feeling (and not an especially common event) for someone who loves to read as much as I do.

Enjoyable Conclusion

Disappointing that Chase Brown had a cold during the first few Harriston chapters but and wish it didn’t take so long for Tessa and Corrick to find their way back together, but overall it was a good way to wrap the story up.

The. Best.

Legitimately one of the best series ever! Aside from in the second and third book the male narrator(s) mispronounce one name wrong the entire time. Such a good series!!

Excellent Series!

Brigid did it again! My second series of hers, and I'm usually not a fan of "fade to black" YA.
Great character development. I laughed, I cried (a lot), I laughed again.

I wasn't a fan of Corrick's narrator throughout the series. He made Corrick sound extra petulant and annoying, which is probably why I didn't really like the character. The other narrative performances were amazing, though!
