Publisher's summary

Life isn't always easy for women today! In the shuffle of so many responsibilities, it's easy to lose focus on pursuing godliness in every task. That's why a woman must train herself to reflect on everything she encounters and determine whether or not it encourages holiness. Her character, relationships, ministry, even her soul - all need to be examined and ultimately surrendered to God before she can develop the godly character she so desperately wants.

Through poignant stories and faithful reminders, Barbara Hughes encourages women to discipline every area so that God is most glorified and they are most unified with Him.

Great reminders and anecdotes

Good for beginner Christians and good reminders for the maturing woman of God. Good anecdotes and explanations of some of the disciplines we must embrace. The last chapter on how to is encouraging.

Great Book, Not-So-Great Reading

This book is biblically sound, helpful, and practical for the Christian woman. I bought the paperback version so I can easily go back and focus on certain areas. My only complaint is with the reader. She read much too fast, as if she was flippant about or bored with the material. She only slowed down when reading quotes. A book like this shouldn’t be rushed. I tried slowing it down on the Audible app, but that made it too slow! Ugh. Overall, a great read for women who want to know how to practically live for God.

Annoyed by the reader.

The book is good, full of useful information, but the narrator reads it as if she is reading to five-year-olds.

My loyalty to God through my husband

What stood out to me was I don’t have to have a good marriage to be a good wife 🤯 As I listened, prayed, and meditated. I realized I was afraid of God fixing my marriage because it meant I had to change. My husband is not a believer but I am. I have been raised in the truth my whole life. I knew I had to put in work but I wasn’t sure if I want to commit. I had every right to walk away my marriage, This book through God spoke into my spirit and it’s has given me the strength to fight not just for my husband but my family.

A Virtuous Woman

Whether you've recently decided to follow Christ, or if you're many years into your faith-walk, you'll be refreshed and enriched by this book. It would be a great study for a women's discipleship group as well.
I was concerned it might be singularly focused on marriage/motherhood as so many Christian women's books are, but that wasn't the overall focus. Following Jesus was the focus- whether married, mother, single, or widow.
Her tone was straight forward and firm, though may just be the voice of the audio reader. I found her relatable, intelligent, and down to earth.
I especially appreciated the section regarding our clothing, and how we each dress for the service God has called us each to. I've never heard that perspective on humble "modesty" and found her take very wise.
I was blessed by the book as a whole, and loved all of the personal stories and scriptures woven throughout!

Another Great Read

Goes into different stages of a Godly woman. Supported from different parts of the bible. Reminds me of The Kingdom Woman by Tony Evans.
