About this listen

The apocalypse may have rewritten the rules of physics, but not humanity.

Adrian and his companions continue their journey toward Melbourne. The pathway through the post-apocalypse landscape continues to be harrowing; as they travel, they run into dysfunctional towns that need their help, and they must find unorthodox solutions to defeat the monsters that plague the landscape, some of which are extinction-level threats.

Throughout it all, he focuses on growing the strength of himself and his team and getting to Melbourne as quickly as possible.

Disquiet continues the magical story telling of the first two books of Alpha Physics.

Review

Overall I enjoyed the book. My biggest concern is the character hasn’t really gone through any change from book one from what I’ve listen to. He says safety first!. You also says he wants to get stronger for his family, he also says other people‘s problems are not theirs to his teammates, which is understandable because he wants to reach his family. But all of these ideals are in conflict within him. The book started to pick up in the later chapters which is kind of sad because that was probably the best parts of the book. Hopefully in the next installment the author addresses these problems.

Real people struggling thru

One of the things I really like about this series, even thru all the very necessary litrpg tropes, the characters feel like real people. They feel trauma, they make mistakes, they struggle, they are not these imaginary somehow perfectly fine in an apocalypse beings. The fights feel like they have real consequence and risk, instead of a foregone conclusion.

Addiction...

I feel bad, I am so consumed with this story. I am drinking these books down so fast, I'm going to be sad when it's over.

Worth the read, but hit and miss

Over all I enjoyed the book, Unfortunately the MC once again prevents the book from being a 5 star read. During fights and in dangerous situations he constantly gets distracted letting his mind go off on tangents that many times are completely irrelevant. Heck even when his interface saves him by stopping time, rather than the obvious answer he ponders, then gets side tracked with other thoughts before minutes later coming up with the obvious answer. As if his life wasn't in danger at all...

Certain parts of the story such as his emotional turmoil for killing baby alpha creatures is exhaustively written taking up chapters worth of pages, yet little progression is made along the main storyline. If this keeps up, it is going to be about 20 books until he gets back to his Family.

His reticence for killing humans seems more cowardly than any moral ambiguity. He knows they need to die, but he wants others to deal with it rather than himself, even after the events that take place. These are themes that were brought up in book 1 as possibilities, yet 3 books later he is surprised? I feel the MC has not progressed at all over the last 3 books making me not sure if I want to read the next.

70% fight scenes 20% inner monolog 10% progress

I really enjoy the story when the story is actually happening. It's mainly large-winded fights and the mc debating against himself and his AI. I found myself zoning out 2/3 of the book to get to the good bits. I'm hoping the next one has more story progression.

Good Progression

The progression of the story is pretty good.

The MCs has several moments where they react/think in what I believe to be the obvious opposite reaction to what I had imagined they'd make, which is bothersome. Some of it is explained in the story though.

Like chips I betcha can't read just one!

Man these are just like eating chips and like me I betcha can't eat just one... These are action-driven stories and I can't get enough of 'em. All I and Adrian wanna do is to get to Melbourne and make sure Emily and the kids are safe. But people and monsters are in the way causing delays.
So join the A team and help Adrian get home.
Grant Cartwright is perfect as he narrates Adrian's POV.

The complexity of the story, the fully thought out world and the narrator

I like it all. I found nothing to dislike. It is great listen if you are into litrpg
