Publisher's summary

They must either stand together, or the kingdom will fall.

The combination of Dayie’s magic and dragon’s fire has halted the advance of the Deadweed. But it is not defeated. Now, a new enemy lurks on the horizon. Water Wraiths sweep in from the sea, cutting their way inland and assisting the invading plant’s onslaught deeper into the land, killing everyone in their path.

The new strategy against the Deadweed has proven effective, but Dayie grows weaker each time she uses her powers. It can only be a temporary fix. When she and her dragon Zarr are invited to train with the High Mountains’ dragon riders, Dayie eagerly accepts the opportunity. But it’s far from a warm welcome as the tight-knit riders of the High Mountains distrust the outsider and her unusual power.

When the High Mountains leader suggests a compromise, a schism in the ranks threatens to tear the group apart. The loyal few must convince both dragons and riders of the Southern Kingdom to join forces against the Water Wraiths.

But Dayie won’t be much use to them if she can’t figure out how to balance her magic usage and avoid depletion.

To survive the growing menace, the dragon riders must set aside the things that divide them and unite. Before it’s too late.

Good story

really great story, wonderful continuity with the first book. if I had anything to say bad about the whole book it would be that the narrator does not know how to pronounce some words.

Another entertaining book

This is the twenty-first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another.
I have enjoyed every series I’ve listened to so far. Each one has an original concept. Some are linked to others by being in the same world, just different areas. Often, there is a subtle mention of events or characters from an other series. This book, like many others, is told by the perspective of two different main characters. The chapters randomly alternate, so it is necessary to listen to the chapter title to avoid momentary confusion.
It is an easy listen and entertaining story.

This is the second book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Traci Arlene ) and I would listen to another. She narrates/performs this series well. She has a good use of character voices and adds emotion to her narration. It’s like listening to the characters themselves.

There are no explicit sex scenes, or excessive violence. There is the very occasional, mild swear word.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this unbiased review.

Filling in the gaps

This second book in the series is starting to fill in some of the questions I had in the first. We are starting to see where the deadweed originates, and why Dayie is the way she is. Mostly it works very well together. I also like the new villain added to the story, where now even the water can be working against the people.

One thing that strikes me off just a bit is a combination of the storytelling and the narration. Nothing is really wrong with either...I like the story and the way it plays out, switching back and forth from the perspective of two main characters...sometimes from the perspective of the female protagonist, and sometimes from the perspective of the male protagonist. Similarly, I like the narration, and the voices Traci Arlene gives to each character. The problem for me was that the perspectives could jump from one chapter to the next, and the only indication that it changes was in the chapter title. I imagine this works really well in text where the chapter title can be at the heading of each page. But in an audiobook with both characters voiced by the same person, I found myself getting distracted and having to go back and see who is talking. It seems like the best solution would be to have two narrators, one female and one male, or somehow make the two voices dramatically different. As I said, not really the fault of either the author or the narrator.

In the end, I really enjoyed the book (which is all I really ask of a story), although it seemed like the conclusion came about just a little too quickly. But I am looking forward to the third and final book of this series.

I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review.

set in same world

this series is set in the same world as sea dragons as some events are mentioned in this series. a series that young adults would enjoy listening and/or reading.

RUSHED

I did not like the story line. Narrator is away over her ability to cover all of the characters in this book alone! Lost interest right away , to much fill in the story.
