Publisher's summary

This program is read by the author.

Part memoir and part social critique, Drinking Games is about how one woman drank and lived—and how, for her, the last drink was just the beginning.

On paper, Sarah Levy’s life was on track. She was 28, living in New York City, working a great job, and socializing every weekend. But Sarah had a secret: her relationship with alcohol was becoming toxic. And only she could save herself.

Drinking Games explores the role alcohol has in our formative years, and what it means to opt out of a culture completely enmeshed in drinking. It’s an examination of what our short-term choices about alcohol do to our long-term selves and how they challenge our ability to be vulnerable enough to discover what we really want in life.

Candid and dynamic, this book speaks to the all-consuming cycle of working hard, playing harder, and trying to look perfect while you’re at it. Sarah takes us by the hand through her personal journey with blackouts, dating, relationships, wellness culture, startups, social media, friendship, and self-discovery.

In this intimate and darkly funny memoir, she stumbles through her twenties, explores the impact alcohol has on relationships and identity, and shows us how life’s messiest moments can end up being the most profound.

Loved it

I thoroughly enjoyed this: Digestible, relative, to the point, honest, healing. I found it relatable and where I couldn’t connect the experiences to my own, the author did a great job providing the context of addictive thinking that I needed in an authoritative and relatable way.

A needed voice and a MUST READ

I felt so much of myself in this memoir, despite not having the same struggles. Sarah beautifully captured what it is like as a 20-something woman today in a new unique and needed way. I shared this book with all my friends after reading it.

Grateful for this book

I heard about this book in a podcast and loved hearing what Sarah shared. I immediately came here to get listen to the book on audible. Her transparency and honesty is so brave and refreshing. There’s so many things I found relatable. I think this book can help people have realizations and make people feel not alone in it. It did for me. Thank you Sarah for sharing your story.

Witty and real

This is a beautiful book perfectly narrated by the author herself. She is a wonderful storyteller striking the perfect balance of levity in what can be heavy topics. Drinker or not, this book provides a space to reflect on the choices we make in our younger years with love and acceptance.

Life changing

One of the most relatable books I’ve read. Would recommend to anyone who knows deep down they want to stop drinking, but needs the inspiration (instead of something bad) to push them to do so.

Needed this book

Everyone sober journey looks different but hers was very similar to mine. Books like these are a case in point of why writing your truth is so important as an author.

Honest, raw and relevant!

I wasn’t sure that I’d be able to relate to this book since Sarah is a Millennial and I am definitely not. I am grateful for Sarah’s honesty. Though I have been sober for 16 years, there were still things that I learned from listening. Congratulations on writing your book, Sarah. It is well written and you are very talented. I look forward to reading your next book. I’m also happy to contribute if you’re interested in the perspective of a 57 year old sober blackout drinker. I look forward to hearing from you. I’ll manifest it. Peace!
