Publisher's summary

Tools for the clinician to help clients turn their bodies into resources for healing from eating disorders.

Embodiment refers to the attunement of the inner and outer self. Cognitions are aligned with the sensing and feeling body. Further, in an attuned experience of self, positive embodiment is maintained by a set of internally focused tools, such as self-care practices that support physiological health, emotional well-being, and effective cognitive functioning.

For those who suffer from eating disorders, this is not the case; in fact, the opposite is true. Disordered thinking, an unattuned sense of self, and negative cognitions abound. Turning this thinking around is key to client resilience and treatment successes.

Catherine Cook-Cottone provides tools for clinicians working with clients to restore their healthy selves and use their bodies as a positive resource for healing and long-term health. The book goes beyond traditional treatments to talk about mindful self-care, mindful eating, yoga, and other practices designed to support self-regulation.

I don't think I can tolerate this narrator

The narrator consistently mispronounces the word "embodiment" which appears so far in just about every line of the book. Don't you think the narrator would at least learn how to pronounce the book's title? Don't you think that to read sensitively she should have enough knowledge on the book's subject to know how to pronounce it? I really want to listen to this so I will try a bit more, but come on!

Get the hard copy

Love this book and love the resources in the book. The Audible version however is not helpful. The narrator is very monotone which is hard to listen to and the book is full of resources that you cannot access in the audible version. This book would be made much better if there was an accompanied PDF of all of the information shared because without it, it makes the book useless to the reader. Because I love the book, I'll be buying the hard copy but would have been good to know what I was getting into before wasting my money on the audio version.

Could not finish it

I found this book incredibly difficult to listen to even though the subject interests me greatly. I ended up returning it and buying a hard copy instead.

Excellent

Packed with powerful tools for professionals and those in recovery. I bought the print copy to be able to continue to reference it over and over.
