About this listen

"Extinction Lost" is a short story that should be read after book 6, Extinction Aftermath. NOTE: This story was originally published in SNAFU: Black Ops.

The war continues …
Two days after the events of Extinction Aftermath, European Unified Command calls on Team Ghost for a top secret mission. The residents of a small Inuit fishing village in Greenland have gone missing and reports of Variants unaffected by Kryptonite have surfaced.

Fatigued, injured, and unaware of the events back in the United States, Master Sergeant Joe Fitzpatrick leads Team Ghost into the remote and alien winter landscape to determine the fate of the missing villagers. But as the operation unfolds they discover a harrowing revelation that could impact the world war against the Variants, and the future of the human race.

Though our friends Fitz and Apollo have no idea what is happening in the States other than rumors they are carrying on with their mission. Unfortunately this one takes them away from Europe and dumps them in Greenland where they face something very new.

Great short to keep me coming back

Team Ghost, led by Fitz, is at it again and have been tasked with a short recon/intel gathering mission. Now in Greenland, the team is now on a mission to figure out why VX9H9 did not have the desired effects at an old Nazi bunker. Much like all of Smith's previous works, this short story packs a quick punch of adrenaline filled action and brings about the hybrids. If you've made it this far and have completed "Aftermath", give this short story a listen to continue on the fight against the variants as we await "War". Easily a 5-star short story.

No breaks for team ghost

You Extinction Lost is book 6.5 in the Extinction Series. Team Ghost, now led by Master Sargent Fitzgerald, must liberate a small fishing town from a type of variant that has taken out the entire previous team.

These variants are a mutation. New challenges face the exhausted and injured team that barely got out of Europe in the previous book. Constant suspense and action make it impossible to put this down just like the last six books.

The characters and varIants are well defined. The variants are always changing. These battles are full of surprises because of the unknown abilities of the variants Team Ghost will be facing. Not everyone lives through any of these books. The Extinction Cycle is a continually evolving series that has kept me obsessed.

The narrator, Bronson Pinchot, does a fantastic job with every character. Listening to the audible is like watching Extinction Lost on TV. I have no idea how anyone can create so many distinctive characters with one voice.

I don't want this to end. I'm reading the prequel now before I move on to the final book in this series.

So addicted to this Amazing series

This author has a thing about bleeding a series dry, with never ending books with bigger, badder monsters and new redshirts to join the select few recurring characters. The Extinction Cycle started as a five book arc, and then the author tacked on a sixth and seventh book expanding the monster threat to Europe. I found books 6 & 7 to be paler versions of the prior books and exhausting to listen to.

This nugget brought the fun and the thrills back by getting right to the soldier vs monster mayhem. It’s got that motley mix of military folks, lingo, and tactics used to pulpy effect like in Predator or Aliens. The character descriptions and backstories might be a bit lacking for those new to the series (this almost completely glosses over MC Fitz as a soldier with blades for legs), but I also think this could serve as a great sampler for those looking to take the plunge. If you are looking at the full length books, I think the first three are still free in Audible Plus, and books 4-6 are available in a collection.

Better than the full length books

This is epic story was simply too short and a bit vague. if ut were longer it would be just as epic as the rest. more explanation on the hybrids is a must!

If you're looking for a quickie, just to get your action and suspense fix. This is the ideal short story, or side story. It's a lil less stressful then the main storyline, but every bit as good. it's a quick fast pace full of action story. I've been binge reading (audiobook) all the stories. I can't get enough. I hope there's more victories in the next book. The good guys keep losing it seems like. I'm hooked on this series.

A fast thrill ride
