About this listen

Julia Riley thinks she’s happy. The executive director of Boston’s Fledger Foundation, she and her wife, Carrie, are raising three children, one from Julia’s first marriage…but being content is not the same as being happy.

Katie Brennan is the popular host of a network television morning show. She has two children and a husband who plays major-league baseball. Rumors of her husband’s infidelity are troubling, but she knows how often the media reports innuendo and half-truths instead of facts.

When the two women collaborate on a fundraising program for a new diversity center, they immediately strike up a friendship, one that only grows stronger when Katie discovers her husband has indeed been unfaithful.

As Katie’s marriage fails, she realizes she is intensely attracted to her friend. Surprised by her own feelings, Katie distances herself from Julia, straining their relationship.

For her part, Julia needs time to heal the wounds of her marriage. She’s not sure Katie will accept a romantic relationship, however. A doubt that gives her pause.

Before either woman can move on, they need to find and accept themselves. Love might feel like falling through shooting stars, but sometimes it takes time for the stars to fall.

Life Changes Love

Just finished listening to this book for the second time. Nancy Ann Healy is a great writer and I loved reading this story, but to listen to it just brought the whole story to life. Jill Smith does a wonderful job of narrating all the different characters. I loved to listen to Julia, Katie and Care. This story is about two women who fall out of love and then fall in love again with other women. Life changes us and sometimes people are not meant to be together forever. Julia and Care fall out of love, Bill cheats on Katie and all their lives changed. This story tells of how these changes affect them, their families and how Care finds a drummer and Julia and Katie find each other. It is a wonderful love story and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Why have an epilogue?

This book was well written and in certain places quite slow. the "Julia Monologs" took up many words and I could not determine for sure why that aspect of the book was in there. Although lovely written I could not piece it together. The epilogue in my opinion should have either not been included and if it HAD to have an epilogue than make it a celebration of a wedding or anniversary instead of it ending the way that it did. Life happens and what was written in the epilogue will eventually happen to all lesbians who have been in long term relationships, but I find that reality can be very hurtful and I lose myself in these lesbian novels for the ability to live vicariously through each lesbian character. Although this book ended with reality I wish the readers could have been spared that ending. It makes me wonder if this story is surrounded by truth or somewhat autobiographical in some way. Thank you for a lovely book and thank you for a nice performance.

loved it

Narrator did a good job with the voices... story line was good too, they took a very very very long time to get together... at times I thought they will be happy as friends than lovers... but overall its food... this one stays in the library... for sure I will listen to it another 100 times.

Sticky gooey

Yup it's sweet. Author uses some words over and over such as chuckle and wink. And narration is excessive - too much telling and too little showing. Not much happens besides characters having feelings they are excruciatingly slow to express. I do like that main characters are motivated by love and strive to live with integrity.

Awesome!!!

I can no longer read just your stand alone books!!! Your writing have you so engrossed in each character, I find myself pausing, and rewinding more, just because I don't want the story to end. This was a FANTASTIC READ. The narrators voice went well with your characters. I'm just sorry the story ended!!

Not What I Was Expecting

In a good way. I have read a lot of this authors works for a number of years and this was something different, a more serious work. This book gives a sober, realistic look at relationships, that include children, that don't last as a unit but do last from separate homes due to the children involved. She depicts blended families that make it work, by sacrificing and supporting each other and another not so much. Such is the world we live in. This book reinforces the fact that for all the people who decry the high divorce rate as such a terrible thing, it simply reflects the freedom and self reliance that women now have to not stay in marriages that are bad for everyone. That fact aside, divorce in life and in this book is usually never easy, it's heartbreaking, messy and painful. The sharing of children, juggling of careers, attempting to create healthy relationships with exes and introducing new partners to this mix made for an engrossing, sad, happy, thoughtful book that left me very attached and invested in these women, men and children. And at the heart of the book is an unsupressable pull, a bond between two women who cannot bare to not be in each other's lives, in whatever form that might ultimately be. Bravo, Ms. Healy.

What an incredible, tender love story!

I enjoyed every minute of this slow burn romance. Friendship, family and love. New discoveries and life lessons learned along the way. This was an excellent book. The narrator also did a fabulous job!

2nd Time

This is the second time I listened to Falling Through Shooting Stars and it won’t be the last. Nancy Ann Healy creates characters that are relatable. This book is no different, Carrie and Julia together for 15 years, find there is more in life than either expected. Read/listen to their journey and the unexpected paths that take them to their truth.

Blended Families

A complex depiction of how homes that involve failing relationships and children can lead to messy situations and complicated negotiations. A heart wrenching story of struggling to give their children the love and foundation they deserve. The narration was impeccable. Recommend.
