About this listen

It’s been over a year since Cassidy Miller retired from the United States Marine Corps, but try telling that to her nightmares. She knew that coming back after eight years in a war zone wouldn’t be easy, but she’d underestimated the real difficulties of transitioning back to civilian life. War is hell, but the aftermath is endless.

Looking for a fresh start, she’s left her friends and career in Minneapolis to be a police officer in northern Minnesota. It’s in the tiny town of Embarrass where she learns more about Julia Desjardin. The city prosecutor is cool, professional, and untouchable. But she and Cassidy have history, and Cassidy isn’t going to let her easily forget that.

For all their surface differences, Cassidy and Julia have more in common than they first realized - both are reluctant to hand over their pasts to be judged and studied. But it might take someone just as damaged as the other to help each cope with the skeletons in their respective closets.

Incredible

This is my first book from this author but I loved every minute of it. There is so much to this story that it is hard to summarize. Lori Prince, as always, did a great job on the narration. Treat yourself and don't pass this one up

My FAVORITE Series!

I have listened to this book countless times. Absolutely adore Julia and Cassidy (though Julia would scare the pants off me in real life!) It is so cool that as of 2024, all six books in the series are on audio, all wonderfully narrated by Lori Prince!

Great!

I loved this book. It was very well written and kept me engaged all night while i was working 3rd shift. The narrator gave the story life and never got boring in her tone. I would seriously recommend this book to anyone. I hope they make the rest of the series into audio books as well.

okay

it was okay, the story seemed predictable. the Military wasn't believable. A Marine would never call themselves a Soldier (?). the only thing they talk about is Oh that bad tine G in Afghanistan. (blah, blah) but that is the worst of the book. it is okay. something to pass the time. Coronavirus 2020

Amazing

Everything about this book is wonderful. The storyline, characters, descriptions. Having had family in both the military and law enforcement, I was really able to appreciate the attention to and inclusion of small details.

As an added bonus, Lori Prince's vocal changes with each character really help the story to come alive even more.

Honestly, you just can't go wrong with this one!

Eliz Lentzski Is a Great Story Teller

I initially chose not to listen to this book although I have read several books by Eliza Lentzski. I have avoided military related characters and themes for the last year and a half after leaving a relationship with a veteran. There is more to that story but this is a book review. Ms. Lentzski has a way about writing that cuts through all the bs and writes about true vulnerability in her MCs. I struggled with one of the MC's treatment of a potential.love interest..her behavior at times was triggering for me. once the story continued to develop and I kept listening I was enthralled. It was as if the non military MCs suffered from PTSD. Lentzski tells a story of the hidden scars we all.have; some people have scars more devastating than we can imagine. Thank you Ms. Lentzski for sharing your gifts of storytelling with all of your readers. This book will.resonate with me as I allow my authentic self to be seen.
