About this listen

LAPD Detective Peter Decker doesn’t know quite what to make of Lilah Brecht. The beautiful, eccentric spa owner and daughter of a faded Hollywood legend, Lilah was beaten, robbed, and raped in her own home - and claims to have psychic powers that enable her to see even more devastating events looming on the horizon. With his heart and mind on his pregnant young wife, Rina Lazarus, at home, Peter finds it hard to put much credence in the victim’s outrageous claims, or to become too deeply involved with her equally odd brothers and aging film star mom. But when Lilah’s dark visions turn frighteningly real, Decker’s world will be severely rocked - as the “false prophet’s” secrets and obsessions entrap the dedicated policeman... and point a killer toward Decker’s own vulnerable family.

Like the characters

Please the morose music is annoying. This was okay but a stretch. The others in this series were better. I do like the reader. I will move forward to the next in the series, last chance!

OK. I Am Officially Hooked

I know that I am hooked when I have 100+ unheard titles in my library, yet I keep getting books from this series. The author knows how to draw me into each character and, at the same time, I view them through the eyes of Detective Decker. I really enjoy the way Rina supports her husband and helps solve case with tips and pointers and with some direct investigation, much to the occasional consternation of her husband. I love the way Decker and Marge theorize about the cases and bounce ideas off each other out until the hit on what they the correct solution to the case.

Well done!

Ms. Kellerman is writing better and better as the series progresses, and Mr. Greenberg, is an amazing, and talented, narrator. On to the next book in the series.

Good book, lazy ending

Satisfactorily intriguing but the story ends as though the author (one of my favorites) responded to her own dinner bell : I’ll be there in a minute, I’ve put enough time into this ... the mystery here is, in fact, how can this mess be unraveled and resolved in a way that assures some appropriate exposure and punishment for the bad (at least the worst) and some degree of recovery and path to survival for the used and abused - and no answer is provided

Average book

Finally the culprit is not revealed in the middle of the book. UR able to do some guess work. But still no detective work is present. Just thorough investigation.

getting to know Marge Dunn

Ms Kellerman is a master at driving the story with both the professional lives of her main characters along with the personal lives of the family. I continue to enthrall in the exposure to the world of Jewish Orthodoxy, and I think that even when the mystery itself doesn't capture my attention the characters still do. Plus this fifth novel in the series lets us explore the partnership between Peter and Marge more than in any of the previous books.

No Place Like Home

The family of perps is totally outrageous. Depicting frustration is masterful. The conclusion is realistic. This Decker/Lazarus is very satisfying.

Disappointing Ending

It was a slow start, but it ended too much too quickly. It made for a disappointing ending. This is one of the few Peter Decker books I won't revisit.
