About this listen

A hopeless romantic meets a jaded radio host in this cozy, Sleepless in Seattle-inspired love story from beloved author B.K. Borison.

Aiden Valentine has a secret: he’s fallen out of love with love. And as the host of Baltimore’s romance hotline, that’s a bit of a problem. But when a young girl calls in to the station asking for dating advice for her mom, the interview goes viral, thrusting Aiden and Heartstrings into the limelight.

Lucie Stone thought she was doing just fine. She has a good job; an incredible family; and a smart, slightly devious kid. But when all of Baltimore is suddenly scrutinizing her love life—or lack thereof—she begins to question if she’s as happy as she believed. Maybe a little more romance wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

Everyone wants Lucie to find her happy ending…even the handsome, temperamental man calling the shots. But when sparks start to fly behind the scenes, Lucie must make the final decision between the radio-sponsored happily ever after or the man in the headphones next to her.

Critic reviews

First-Time Caller is a beautiful, steamy, effervescent romance that pours hope and love right into your soul! Absolute magic lives inside these pages.”—Sarah Adams, New York Times bestselling author of Practice Makes Perfect

First-Time Caller made me feel like I was reading my favorite story for the first time—because I was. Bright, effervescent, and painfully relatable, B.K. Borison’s writing is a masterclass in tender care. I was kicking my heels and smiling through my tears—what a joyful ode to happily ever after!”—Ashley Poston, New York Times bestselling author of The Seven Year Slip

"First-Time Caller is everything: tender, sexy, stuffed with flirty banter that had me screaming into my pillow. Full of characters who feel real, like family. A beautiful love letter to love and the movie that made me believe in it. Infused with the kind of magic I can't properly put into words, because B.K. Borison took all the prettiest ones for this book. It's B.K. at her very best, a reminder that it's her world and we're the lucky readers who get to live in it. Hang this one in the Louvre."—Jessica Joyce, USA Today bestselling author of The Ex Vows

Late Night Radio Host meets Mechanic Single Mom

This was absolutely adorable!!!! I loved every bit of it this book. The audiobook was soooo good!!! The radio sounds and the narration was perfection!

Aiden is a total grump. He’s a late night love radio host and doesn’t believe in love. Lucie is a single mom who is raising a strong willed 11 year old daughter. Lucie’s relationship with her daughter’s dad is so strong. Him and his husband live next door and they’re all best friends. Lucie is also a mechanic which was so fun because it’s not a normal book occupation for a woman. To see her be a strong woman in a male dominated job showed us how she can hold her own.

Lucie’s daughter calls into Aiden’s radio show asking for advice for her mom. Lucie overhears her talking to someone late and she flips out. She finds out the reasoning and ends up talking to Aiden for hours, sharing her wants, dreams and desires. Lucie is shocked she was so open and Aiden finally feels a drive for his job. Lucie becomes an overnight viral voice for so many. Aiden’s boss offers Lucie a spot on the show to find true love. And she does but not after many obstacles and horrible dates.

Liked the interplay of all characters

Distinct and interesting friendship/co-worker relationships. The male lead was a bit one-dimensional, but the female lead had depth and strength. Look forward to the second book in this series.

Subverting Tired Old Tropes

I've been following this author since the beginning, and i was a little nervous about leaving our small town for the big city. But all the charm and friendship is still there. And she takes a moment that could have easily been the same old tired trope and flips it on its head. I'm super satisfied and can't wait to come back.

Cozy and hopeful

Aiden, hot crabass (great, now I want a crab boil), is a radio host who begrudgingly doles out relationship advice and has STRONG 1990s Tom Hanks vibes (ELITE). Lucie Stone is a mechanic with a life full of loved ones but with no love life. Her kid, Maya, scheming like a Wes Anderson directed weasel in a pantry, calls into Aiden’s show, Heartstrings, and ropes Lucie into the ears and hearts of Baltimore.

This was adorable. Such a classic rom com feel, so cozy, low stakes but NOT boring- as cozy rom coms so often fall prey to. If you love banter, the movie Sleepless in Seattle, and curmudgeons falling in love hard despite flailing in resistance, this is your book.

The Modern Day Sleepless in Seattle!

OMG - BK outdid herself with this one. Sleepless in Seattle is my favorite movie and reading this book took me back to how it made me feel the first time I watched the movie. MUST LISTEN.
