About this listen

The number one New York Times best-selling author returns to the characters in Firefly Lane in her next blockbuster novel, Fly Away. Once, a long time ago, I walked down a night-darkened road called Firefly Lane, all alone, on the worst night of my life, and I found a kindred spirit. That was our beginning. More than 30 years ago. TullyandKate. You and me against the world. Best friends forever.

But stories end, don't they? You lose the people you love and you have to find a way to go on...Tully Hart has always been larger than life, a woman fueled by big dreams and driven by memories of a painful past. She thinks she can overcome anything until her best friend, Kate Ryan, dies. Tully tries to fulfill her deathbed promise to Kate - to be there for Kate's children - but Tully knows nothing about family or motherhood or taking care of people. Sixteen-year-old Marah Ryan is devastated by her mother's death. Her father, Johnny, strives to hold the family together, but even with his best efforts, Marah becomes unreachable in her grief. Nothing and no one seems to matter to her...until she falls in love with a young man who makes her smile again and leads her into his dangerous, shadowy world.

Dorothy Hart - the woman who once called herself Cloud - is at the center of Tully's tragic past. She repeatedly abandoned her daughter, Tully, as a child, but now she comes back, drawn to her daughter's side at a time when Tully is most alone. At long last, Dorothy must face her darkest fear: Only by revealing the ugly secrets of her past can she hope to become the mother her daughter needs.

A single, tragic choice and a middle-of-the-night phone call will bring these women together and set them on a poignant, powerful journey of redemption. Each has lost her way, and they will need each one another - and maybe a miracle - to transform their lives.

An emotionally complex, heart-wrenching novel about love, motherhood, loss, and new beginnings, Fly Away reminds us that where there is life, there is hope, and where there is love, there is forgiveness.

Told with her trademark powerful storytelling and illuminating prose, Kristin Hannah reveals why she is one of the most beloved writers of our day. Includes a Reading Group Guide Read by Kristin Hannah

This is real life

I haven’t read a fictional book that depicts how grief really works as well as this one. It was wonderful to hear the characters go full circle

Great sequel. Read Firefly Lane first

I enjoyed this book as much as the first but in different ways. I think some of the bad reviews came from those who didnt read Firefly Lane first. if I hadn't gotten to know nd love the characters first I might have been put off by the theme of this book. As a child of the 70s and 80s I loved how the first book brought me back. Admittedly the first book was funnier and the second one was much darker but that is to be expected when dealing with grief and loss. I loved how she developed her characters more deeply in this book especially Tullys mom. This book was totally worth it. Just read Firefly first.

Wow! This is a book you won’t forget!

First of all I would suggest you listen to Firefly Lane before this book, as Fly Away is a continuation of the story.

This book is quite emotionally heavy, but it’s also a story that immediately invests you into the characters. It deals with many real issues of love, loss and trying to find where a person belongs.

Highly recommended!!

awesome sequel to Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah!

I highly suggest that you read Firefly Lane before you start this book. I know that I am glad I did because I would have judged the characters very differently and would have been lost a bit into why the story was so powerful and given in such detail that some individuals might say why are we going on and on and on and on and on on This Woman's coma or this particular person dorsey's backstory Etc. I was thrilled when I finished Firefly Lane in this came up as my first suggestion I had no idea that a sequel existed and I really really wanted to know what happened to Kate's family after her passing. I am so happy that I was able to have closure to a story that spoke so profoundly to me that I found myself sobbing multiple times especially during the last eight chapters. Kristin Hannah has a way of speaking to her audience in the truth senses of what makes us human. This is only my third book by her. the great alone was my first and it was amazing. Also the narrator was amazing and it's the same in both books which I love when you're doing something that's closer to Chronicles because it can be confusing when they switch the narrator and it's playing the same characters during a close time. Anyways I love this book I hope you do too

Memorable Story

Glad this sequel was written. There was so much story left to tell. I do not agree with some of the reviews I read. I am glad the author told Clouds story from the beginning. It explained so much. some of the reviews I read were not good. So glad I decided on listening to this book. I enjoyed it. I really like the way the author tells the story. Would love to see more with these characters.

Tully and Kate Reunited

Because it was sent to me by a friend, I didn't realize that Fly Away continued the story of the Firefly Lane girls until I started listening. I was glad that it did. This continues the story of the decades long friendship of two very different girls and then women who first met as 8th graders in Firefly Lane.
It is a story of love and loss, grief and regret, the importance of forgiveness and of finding g your way back to those who love you.
It brings everything full circle for Tully, her mom, and Kate and her family. Read/listen to Firefly Lane first to get the full story.
I won't soon forget Tully and Kate or the people who loved them. You should meet them too.
Kristin Hannah is fast becoming one of my favorite authors and the narration brings each character to life--a winning combination.
