Publisher's summary

For eighteen years, Jude Farraday has put her children’s needs above her own, and it shows - her twins, Mia and Zach, are bright and happy teenagers. When Lexi Baill moves into their small, close-knit community, no one is more welcoming than Jude. Lexi, a former foster child with a dark past, quickly becomes Mia’s best friend. Then Zach falls in love with Lexi and the three become inseparable.

Jude does everything to keep her kids on track for college and out of harm’s way. It has always been easy - until senior year of high school. Suddenly she is at a loss. Nothing feels safe anymore; every time Mia and Zach leave the house, she worries about them.

On a hot summer’s night her worst fears are realized. One decision will change the course of their lives. In the blink of an eye, the Farraday family will be torn apart and Lexi will lose everything. In the years that follow, each must face the consequences of that single night and find a way to forget... or the courage to forgive.

Vivid, universal, and emotionally complex, Night Road raises profound questions about motherhood, identity, love, and forgiveness. It is a luminous, heartbreaking novel that captures both the exquisite pain of loss and the stunning power of hope. This is Kristin Hannah at her very best, telling an unforgettable story about the longing for family, the resilience of the human heart, and the courage it takes to forgive the people we love.

Good story , great narrator but some holes

Being from Seattle I know that an 18 year old girl with no priors would never have to serve 6 years in jail for a drunk driving accident when she was only .09. ( an extra year for bad behavior because she punched someone shows me that the author knows nothing about the system here ). Even with MADD after her , she would have been let off - but at the most would have been given a year and served half her time . Washington State just let out 1,000 criminals because our system is too full . So that was a huge hole . The other part that wasn’t believable is how the mother held a grudge for the accident for 6 full years and then suddenly forgives her completely ? The narrator was great and the story until the trial - if the boyfriend would have totally sided with her against his mom and begged her not to plead guilty, their reunion would have made more sense at the end. Considering how he treated her when it was really his fault, I was disappointed she would take him back so easily . It was a good subject to explore the consequences of , so I still gave it a 4 out of 5, but I have a hard time Witt but unrealistic holes in a story

Not bad

for some reason I feel like the character integrity wobbled at the end. maybe it's because it's the abridged version but the skeleton of the story was good.

Easy reading

I liked this book, even the sappier chic-lit parts. I liked that the story moved quickly and was interesting. This is a good choice if you want a casual quick read that doesn't require too much thinking. However there were still definitely parts that will make you think .. And feel.. And maybe even get angry. The narration was great with one exception: all the 14 - 18 yr. old girls sounded like they were around 6 ... Not too realistic. Overall a light pleasant read dealing with a sad tragedy.

Loved the story

Very sad but loved the story! The narrator made the teens sound very young which was hard to identify with but other than that it was good!
