Daniel Goleman
In Focus, Psychologist and journalist Daniel Goleman, author of the #1 international best-seller Emotional Intelligence, offers a groundbreaking look at today's scarcest resource and the secret to high performance and fulfillment: attention.
Combining cutting-edge research with practical findings, Focus delves into the science of attention in all its varieties, presenting a long overdue discussion of this little-noticed and under-rated mental asset. In an era of unstoppable distractions, Goleman persuasively argues that now more than ever we must learn to sharpen focus if we are to survive in a complex world.
Goleman boils down attention research into a threesome: inner, other, and outer focus. Drawing on rich case studies from fields as diverse as competitive sports, education, the arts, and business, he shows why high-achievers need all three kinds of focus, and explains how those who rely on smart practices - mindfulness meditation, focused preparation and recovery, positive emotions and connections, and mental "prosthetics" that help them improve habits, add new skills, and sustain greatness - excel while others do not.

Would you consider the audio edition of Focus to be better than the print version?
If it's easier to focus while listening than reading than yes. What did you like best about this story?
The author narrates his own writing and is able to give voice to his ideas. I particularly like the counter position he proposes. In the beginning he speaks directly concerning the problems of video game and technology addiction and later in the book goes on to talk of benefits these can provide to focus.Have you listened to any of Daniel Goleman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have notDid you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The book caused me to take a good self examination, particularly on my tendency to pick up on social ques. It was interesting how it explained this tendency can be bothersome to some people which it is to me. I appreciated how this book was able to help me explore this side of myself.Any additional comments?
Highly recommended if you're looking to improve productivity in the workplace or in life. Good self exploration of finding those things that most distract you and helps to find areas in which you can improve focus.Interesting view on technology and education
