About this listen

Emily Mitchell, 35, living and working in New York City, has struggled through a string of failed relationships. When her boyfriend of seven years takes her out for their long-awaited anniversary dinner, Emily is sure that this time will be different, that this time she will finally get the ring.

When he gives her a small bottle of perfume instead, Emily knows the time has come to break up with him - and for her entire life to have a fresh start.

Reeling from her unsatisfying, high-pressure life, Emily decides she needs a change. She decides on a whim to drive to her father's abandoned home on the coast of Maine, a sprawling, historic house where she'd spent magical summers as a child. But the house, long-neglected, is in dire need of repair, and the winter is no time to be in Maine. Emily hasn't been there in 20 years, when a tragic accident changed her sister's life and shattered her family. Her parents divorced, her father disappeared, and Emily was never able to bring herself to step foot in that house again.

Now, for some reason, with her life reeling, Emily feels drawn to the only childhood place she ever knew. She plans on going just for a weekend to clear her head. But something about the house, its numerous secrets, its memories of her father, its oceanfront allure, its small-town setting - and most of all its gorgeous, mysterious caretaker - doesn't want to let her leave. Can she find the answers she's been looking for here, in the most unexpected place of all?

Can a weekend become a lifetime?

Never had read anything by Sophie Love and I’m glad I went for it. A story of new beginnings, kindness, friendship and love. I really enjoyed the story. The narrator did a great job as always. Good writer plus good narrator makes a great read.

Pleasantly surprised

I love every chapter of this book by listening to every detail of the story I would read it all over again.

Love this book

I loved the story. I enjoyed living vicariously through Emily and her discovery of all the secrets in her family home. I, as most, also love British accents but felt a little confused at all the Brits living in Maine. I think that was a bit distracting.

Loved the story, confused by the accents.

At first, I wondered why the narrator had the accent, then after hearing certain words used, I told myself “Get with the rest of the world!”
The narrator did an excellent job on the voices of others. I found myself disappointed it was done. I’ll read more of the author.

Very good!

I'm not sure there are any bad books. At least I haven't heard one yet.

I wanted to listen a good romantic story with a little bit of spice to it, and this was EXACTLY it!

Once I started I couldn’t stop!

The English accent threw me off for the entire book since the story was set in Maine. I kept waiting for something to tell me this really took place in England, but it never came!
The story was only so-so. I won’t be continuing the series.

Wrong Accent!

This is an American story with a British narrator. Strange and at times hard to listen to. Otherwise a good story and characters. This is the first in a series, i hope there is another narrator

Good Story strangely accented narrater
