About this listen

When Kayla Grey is caught in a fierce snowstorm in Montana, she is rescued by the very man she'd come to find. Cal was a true cowboy and also the brother of the man who'd wanted to marry her. But she didn't discover that until too late - after they'd kissed by a roaring fire and Kayla felt a desire she'd never known.©1997 Suzanne Brockmann (P)2007 Blackstone Audio, Inc. Good, but not great

For a Suzanne Brockmann story, this book was just ok. It didn't quite pack the punch of her Troubleshooters series, and perhaps this is an unfair comparison. However, once an author shows what they are capable of, it's hard to accept less. The characters and storyline of this book were kind of unremarkable, but likable enough. I'd recommend giving it a try.

What????

I downloaded this to try a new author and will not be adding any more of her books to my collection. The writing style is fine, as well as the narrator chosen for the piece. But the story stretches so far; I just had to laugh sometimes at the ridiculousness. If you don’t mind something a bit far fetched- give it a try, there are some funny parts and the author does wrap up the story.

Short and tense

I got this book for a short, inexpensive romance fix - and it fit the bill perfectly. The narrator was above average, which to me is a big part of the audio book experience. The story kept me on the edge of my seat - it's romance, after all, and romance always has a happy ending, doesn't it? Although I had some ideas on how it could turn out, the author had me guessing til the very end how in the world the hero and heroine would ever get their happy ending in this situation. I started it over from the beginning, just to hear it all over again.

OK-but lower your expectations from Brockmann

If you're expecting the level of writing that Brockmann displays in the Trouble Shooters/Navy Seals series - you'll be very disappointed. Otherwise, it was an easy read, good enough to keep your attention - albeit a little slow in a few parts.

The narrator is a good story teller and competent with both male and female voices.

Too Rushed

This book had a good story to it, but it was too rushed. It didn't seem as if the author wanted to take her time in creating the story to a fuller extent. It was disappointing and not worth the money to me.

Not worth a credit!!

Let me say this, I love Suzanne Brockmann. I've enjoyed many of her books. Just not this one. This story was written a long time ago, and I found it, dear I say it, boring!! Story was old, premise was old and trite. If you want a "contemporary read" this would NOT be it.

Such a disappointment

I do not know which was worse, the story and how it was written or the performance. I have read and truly enjoyed Suzanne Brockmann‘s books for years, but this one was so schmaltzy, and unimaginative. And the reader was over acting so much I had to listen to it at a greatly increased speed just to get through it. I kept thinking perhaps it would get better, but it truly did not. It is almost as if it was not written by Suzanne Brockmann.

Ugh!

I like the troubleshooter series so I thought I would try another one in a different setting. Wrong! Every two minutes some one was crying or repeating in their head how much they adored the other one. The narration was sappy and breathless. I knew there was a plot in there but it was hidden.
