About this listen

"Warm and wise, Frankie is a woman worth getting to know."—Bonnie Garmus, New York Times-bestselling author of Lessons in Chemistry

From the internationally bestselling author and host of The Graham Norton Show, a dazzling and decades-sweeping story about love, bravery, and what it means to live a significant life.

Always on the periphery, looking on, young Frankie Howe was never quite sure enough of herself to take center stage—after all, life had already judged her harshly. Now old, Frankie finds it easier to forget the life that came before.

Then Damian, a young Irish caretaker, arrives at her London flat, there to keep an eye on her as she recovers from a fall. A memory is sparked, and the past crackles into life as Damian listens to the story Frankie has kept stored away all these years.

Traveling from post-war Ireland to 1960s New York—a city full of art, larger-than-life characters and turmoil—Frankie shares a world in which friendship and chance encounters collide. A place where, for a while, life blazes with an intensity that can’t last but will perhaps live on in other ways and in other people.

Great Book

I loved the characters in this story. I usually don't like it when the timeline jumps back and forth but the story was so interesting.

The best Graham Norton book yet

What a beautiful surprise this book was. So different from Graham Norton’s other books and I have loved every one. Frankie was blessed with such rich characters and such a breadth of story, well, it was indeed a lifetime. I cried at several spots, the AIDS storyline in Frankie’s NYC life, and her ultimate fate and resurgence. Such a beautifully written book. And you must, must listen to Graham Norton read his own words. I don’t know if anyone else could do them justice. I won’t forget Frankie anytime soon.

I didnt want it to end. Graham's story are so warm

I pre-ordered this book because I love to consume anything Graham Norton. I usually listen to thrillers and mysteries but with Graham his books are all about the story of someone's life and he really delves into them as people--with his sweet, funny and heartwarming personality. There are a bunch of funny laugh out loud Graham-isms and I, like the character in the book, just wanted to keep hearing more of Frankie's story. I cant wait for whats next for Graham!
