About this listen

This unlikely getaway driver never expected to help the mayor escape…

After a six-year absence, Addison Potts is back in Charleston to stir things up. And what better place to make her villainous return than her estranged cousin’s wedding? Only, the nuptials hit a snag when the bride doesn’t show, leaving Addison to play getaway driver for the jilted groom. A groom whose heartbreaking smile and deep, southern drawl she should not be noticing…

Elijah Montgomery Du Pont is the future mayor of Charleston. From his military career to city hall, every detail of his life has been meticulously planned. Until now. His only respite from life’s sudden upheaval is Addison, his new, improbable best friend. She makes him happy. Grounds him. And public disapproval be damned, he’s not willing to give her up. But with an election on the line and public pressure rising, Addison—and the cruel hand of fate—might not give him a choice.

Female narrator is... interesting

I LOVE Tessa Bailey books but this one fell flat for me. I think Addison deserved a better voice actor. Usually I listen to books multiple times but this one... I just can't. Runaway girl, yes. Getaway girl, eh. I can't remember if it's free, but if it's not, get it when it's on sale.

Good story. Horrible narration.

This isn’t one of my favorite Tessa Bailey books but the story is still good. However I had a hard time finishing it solely because of the narrators. The female narrator came off extremely whiny and annoying no matter the what she was saying. The male narrator’s accent was just extremely fake sounding, it reminded me of a very southern debutant who is trying to hard. Finally, when they had back and forth dialogue it was clearly recorded at different times and it came off very disjointed.

Female narrator

I loved this story but struggled with the female narrator's voice. She was super annoying

Female narrator made the female character sound whiny and cringy

I can’t tell if the story was written with a whiny female character or the narrator made her appear this way. The romantic scenes were completely cringy. They (romantic scenes) were high-pitched and whiny with touches of baby talk voice.

I really enjoy Tessa Bailey as an author, but did not like the story here because the female character seemed so weak.

Not as good as others

I’ve recently discovered this author and am liking her stories. I had a hard time with this story, the female actress was extremely whiny. Didn’t feel a connection between the characters like you can with ‘My Killer Vacation’. Made hearing the intimate parts a little cringey. Story line was decent. Wouldn’t recommend this story to others as a first read for this author.

Great as always

Fun story and I loved the male voice but the female voice was a little confusing on the emotional front.

The performance is a zero.

I love everything I’ve read by Tessa Bailey… but who is choosing her voice actors and readers? The female reader is awful. The male reader is fine.

Added to my faves list as soon as I finished it

There is a lot that I like about this book that makes it different from most. but I don't want to spoil anything, so I will try to thread the needle.

I love the way they interact, in ALL of the ways they interact.
They are so cute together. I love her personality and he's pretty good too, but the way they are with each other is just *chef's kiss*

Average writing and odd narrator decisions

The narrator made some odd decisions when reading. Didn’t seem natural the way she would influx her voice. Kind of took me out of the book a few times. The story was just OK. I prefer books where the story happens to have smut. This seem to be more about the smut that happened to have a story.
