About this listen

The author of the “sparkling dark romance” (Redbook) We Could Be Beautiful brings her “wit and verve” (The New York Times Book Review) to this quirky, feel-good novel about one woman’s messy journey from self-delusion to self-acceptance.

At 37, Stevie Green has had it with binge drinking and sleeping with strange men. She’s confused about her sexuality and her purpose in life. When her mother asks her to return to her hometown of La Jolla to help her move into a new house, she’s desperate enough to say yes. The move goes so well that Stevie decides to start her own decluttering business. She stops drinking. She hires her formerly estranged sister, Bonnie, to be her business partner. She rekindles a romance with her high school sweetheart, Brad. Things are better than ever - except for the complicated past that Stevie can’t seem to outrun.

Who was responsible for the high school scandal that caused her life to take a nosedive 20 years earlier? Why is she so secretive about the circumstances of her father’s death? Why are her feelings for her ex-friend Chris so mystifying? If she’s done drinking, then why can’t she seem to declutter the mini wine bottles from her car?

A winsome, fast-paced listen, Getting Clean with Stevie Green is about coming to terms with who you are, resolving the pain of your past, and accepting the truth of your life in all its messy glory.

Sweet and funny characters, a romp and page turner, then suddenly you’re hit with the very real powerful issues beneath. The best kind of novel. I was sorry when it was done.

Deceptively light read, packs a punch

There are a number of angles to this novel that astonish me. The sheer honesty and wit of the shared inner life and thoughts of a smart woman is such a welcomed read and inspiring. -- completely relatable. It is spot on how we clutter ourselves with so much more than objects. The book is contemporary and utterly “bingeable.” A big plus is how the excellent readers changed with the voice speaking — the best I’ve heard on Audible!

I binged on "Getting Clean with Stevie Green"

Such a great book! I was hooked and couldn’t stop listening, I was making excuses to go for a drive just so I could listen/finish the book!

Amazing!

The story was just ok. Definitely not as good as the others. What I really couldn’t deal with was the quality of the audio. The narrator was fine but it was like listening to a record skipping. There was word and sentences repeated in almost every chapter. I didn’t see many reviews so I am not sure if others had the same issue. It was really annoying to listen to. There were also sentences that were cut off completely. I will be returning it as I would definitely not be able to listen to it again based on the audio quality.

Ok story. Terrible audio
