About this listen

From Donna Brazile, former DNC chair and legendary political operative, an explosive and revealing new look at the 2016 election: the first insider account of the Russian hacking of the DNC and the missteps by the Clinton campaign and Obama administration that enabled a Trump victory.

In the fallout of the Russian hacking of the Democratic National Committee - and as chaos threatened to consume the party's convention - Democrats turned to a familiar figure to right the ship: Donna Brazile. Known to millions from her frequent TV appearances, she was no stranger to high stakes and dirty opponents, and the longtime Democratic strategist had a reputation in Washington as a one-stop shop for fixing sticky problems.

What Brazile found at the DNC was unlike anything she had experienced before - and much worse than is commonly known. The party was beset by infighting, scandal, and hubris while reeling from a brazen and wholly unprecedented attempt by a foreign power to influence the presidential election. Plus, its candidate, Hillary Clinton, faced an opponent who broke every rule in the political playbook.

Packed with never-before-reported revelations about what went down in 2016, Hacks is equal parts campaign thriller, memoir, and road map for the future. With Democrats now in the wilderness after this historic defeat, Hacks argues that staying silent about what went wrong helps no one. Only by laying bare the missteps, miscalculations, and crimes of 2016, Brazile contends, will Americans be able to salvage their democracy.

Read What Happened?

I thought the book was great! I read what happened by Hillary Clinton and it was interesting hearing the different sides to the stories. I found her to be very honest, authentic. I believed her more than I did Clinton’s book. I really recommend. I couldn’t stop listening. Some parts I listened to multiple times. She goes into detail about what really happened with the Russian hacking, how the DNC and Hillary’s party were two different entities. How poor Bernie didn’t have a chance and she had the evidence. It’s exactly why “I was NOT with her”.

Self-Serving

I confess that I am somewhat skeptical about the veracity of this book. Ms. Brazile seems to exaggerate the honor of her motives, actions, and sentiments. It felt like spin; 100%. I was hoping for some real insider information and whistle-blowing, and all I got was spin. It was a mistake to let Ms. Brazile narrate this book. It was obvious she didn’t write the book, since she struggled to pronounce far too many of the words. Hachette should have used a narrator from their roster.

Best insight and tell all of the 2016 election

If you like “tell all” memoirs, especially political, this book has the best insight; and Brazile is as deep an insider one can get.

She reads her work herself and as she is not the best narrator, based on the conversational style of the book, she did a fantastic job - at times I felt we were having a conversation over some cold brew and crab legs.

If you are any type of political junkie or a 2016 election-phile, this is a must read.

It felt self serving, really it did.

I wanted more from this work than, "If they had only listened to me it would have been different."

A Magnificent Woman's Struggle

Donna Brazile has written a magnificent account of Hillary's run for the Presidency from her position as a replacement DNC National Chairwoman. It was not a job she sought but one that she was drafted for when the excesses of Debbie Wasserman Schultz became a major problem.

There had been a computer intrusion but Debbie Wasserman would not allow the FBI access to their computer. Later Donna would discover that there were secret agreements made between the DNC under Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Hillary's campaign that gave Hillary control of a very substantial portion of the DNC funding. Not only did it violate the law but it also affected the ability of the DNC to support candidates nationwide.

The DNC convention had been rigged for Hillary and against Bernie. Brazille describes the many maneuvers used to affect voting at the convention.

The book is a great read, written by an outstanding woman and provides the best analysis of how Hillary's team lead the party to defeat.

Highly recommended......

Protect Donna

Donna Brazile is a chad. A true American.

I actually really did enjoy it. It was like reading something my mom would write.

What a great listen. A real inside view.

Wow. Read or listen to this book. I loved hearing the words coming right from Donna's mouth. She is absolutely so knowledgeable and so real. The hacking story that we all know about is described from within the DNC and she knows what she is talking about. Credible and scary. Donna tells the story warmly, wonderfully and her voice rings true and clear. Somebody make this book a movie, please.
