About this listen

Three years ago, Ham retired to a quiet life in the remote desert of Northern Mexico.

Realizing what she was doing would likely end in her death, she severed all ties, disappearing across international borders.

Her retirement ended abruptly with a single message. The sole person in the world Ham feels the least bit of loyalty to is in trouble, in need not only of Ham but of the very skills that put her into hiding.

Acting against every ingrained maxim, and ignoring the myriad warning signs popping up along the way, Ham returns north to find a great deal has changed in her time away. The world moved on, evolving in ways she would have never imagined. From local gang affiliates to the Los Angeles Police Department, everybody seems to be involved in something, all of it somehow leading back to a woman.

A woman relying entirely on Ham to get her through....

Once the first few chapters slowly set the context the story gets better with enough suspense to keep you wondering and engaged. Good listen.

Enough suspense to keep going

I loved the charecter,Her dedication and deep integrety. Well constructed ,one is kept guessing what or whom has set HAM back into herast life. Sometimes it takes violence to concure evil As always Xe Sands is a superb narrater. I do so wish there where more books in the series.

Great story wonderfully narated

thus is a very violent battered wife rescue stiry. the Ham character is bizarre, no emotion assign kind of person who takes out cops, gang members, and anyone she rubs into. ah hope the next guy gets her. she does a good deed in the end, but is not very changed.

Not a fan

I liked it. There are so many lone wolf stories to choose from. Not always looking for a "redemption" story or that MC was saved by love. The chapters and pacing of the story were set up very well. Kudos to Mr. Stevens. I'll read more of his work, and especially Ham

Matter of fact without many surprises. Entertaining and easy to listen to without deep Meaning!

Fun story, violent yes, but fun

I read the reviews, they were a bit jaded, but I thought it was pretty good and interesting

The only thing I don't like about this book, is that the next two books "Even" and "Rules" are not on Audible. Ham, a smart, fully-trained loner is called out of her Spartan existence by the one person she loves enough to do so for, her sister Amy. If you're looking for a a female version of Jack Reacher, you've found her. As for the narration, Xe Sands voice is so soft, be sure to hike the volume. Otherwise it's great! Thoroughly enjoyed it!!

I would have liked a little more complexity out of the story. overall I believe it was definitely worth listening to. Xe Sands is my favorite narrator so that may have helped.

fast paced
