About this listen

An all-new Star Trek novel—continuing the legacy of the critically acclaimed Vanguard series!

SOME SECRETS SHOULD STAY BURIED

HIDDEN AGENDAS

Captain James T. Kirk and the Enterprise crew race to save a missing Federation scientist, only to become trapped between the Klingons’s infamous Captain Kang and Starfleet’s mysterious Operation Vanguard.

ANCIENT TERRORS

In eons long past, alien hegemons known as the Shedai ruled thousands of worlds in the Milky Way Galaxy. For millennia, their former thralls thought the Shedai were all dead and gone. They were wrong.

UNLIKELY ALLIES

For a Starfleet landing party and a Klingon strike team, a race to capture the long-buried secrets of the Shedai turns into a fight for survival—one that can be won only by putting aside their conflicts and working together…

Great performance, not distracting at all, and kept you in the story.

Loved the story (Thanks David Mack)

Would love to see more like this!

Just what I was looking for

I really enjoyed this book. David Mack does a great job of making the original series feel like the future and not the sixties. Robert Petkoff always knocks the characters out of the park. Highly recommended.

great book. great narration.

While Spock battles down below with future allies Kirk is above fighting a different and powerful battle. Enjoyed this book as well for having more enlisted characters and exploring the arc that comes with it.

A little violent but I think the backstory justifies it though the carnage that ensues is pretty harsh however the different characters acknowledging this kept me in the trek mode and overall is was a very enjoyable story.

Bloody but epic adventure

I greatly enjoyed this book. It was well written and entertaining. The story was interesting and I especially liked the Klingons. They are quite a wild bunch.

An entertaining book.

This book is great fun adventure! Harkens back to the 90s Star Trek Books! Especially enjoyed having the Klingons back in an Adventure!

Great Book

Be patient. It starts a little slow but then becomes intense and riveting. I only wish Kirk was a bit more involved. Still, it was a great story and the antagonist is terrifying. I love Robert Petkoff's narrations and, as always, he does a terrific job. I highly recommend this one, though I'm a Star Trek junkie so I may be a little impartial.

Excellent! Might be my new favorite.

This book is extremely well written-- lots of intensity, lots of depth, but holy cow is it violent. It's very explicit about gore, fighting, etc., and doesn't shy away about the horrors of war. It's horrifying in a way that's intentional. If you like a war story, you'll like this. If not, avoid this one'

this is a very good, but very violent story

I really loved the vanguard series when it came out. Loved being able to revisit it. As usual lot of action and humor between characters. Recommend to any Star Trek fan.

Another great one.

I was a little iffy in the beginning, as the start was slow. Still, good story that could've been better in the end. For example, key characters involved deserved to have their sacrifices better recognized at the end of the story. The tale lacked a good Spock and McCoy argument, too! Not bad, though - Nice tie-in with The Doomsday Machine and Commodore Decker's death.

GRADE: B+

GOOD STAR TREK STORY!
