Publisher's summary

Your tale is bigger than your trauma. Listen on to find out how to reclaim your story….

Childhood trauma is more common than any healthy society would like, with more than two-thirds of children reporting at least one traumatic event by age 16.

Traumatic events may include:

  • Psychological, physical, or sexual abuse
  • Domestic, community, or school violence
  • Neglect
  • Serious accidents or life-threatening illnesses

These traumatic events can trigger a variety of responses–such as intense emotional upset, depressive symptoms or anxiety, behavioral changes, difficulties with self-regulation, and problems relating to others, just to list a few. No matter how much you try to avoid or ignore this trauma, traumatic experiences have a tendency of leaving a legacy of reminders that persists for years. It may manifest differently from person to person, but what’s universal is the harmful impact of trauma on a person’s health, relationships, and experiences.

It’s time you confront your childhood trauma, process its effects on you, and release yourself from its hold on your life.

Here is just a small fraction of how this guide can help you:

  • A 6-step personal process of healing and 8 ways to overcome the heaviness of childhood trauma
  • How acceptance of your trauma can be your biggest weapon against it
  • One-upping your trauma with the five F’s–learn the best ways to respond to your emotional trauma
  • How following your passions, setting boundaries, and engaging in active self-care can help you deal with your trauma

  • Practical exercises exercises and mindfulness practices for overcoming PTSD and depression
  • End-of-chapter reflections with journaling prompts to help you process your thoughts, feelings, and insights
  • And much more!

One Step at A Time

Heal Your Inner Child is an excellent resource to support your healing journal. I appreciated the exercise and suggestions in this book. Self-care and self-parenting were areas that made perfect sense to me. This book gives you the steps necessary to be a proactive part of your own healing. The author even shares how you can use all the senses in your healing journey and how important simple things like gut health can affect mental health. Well done.

Meet your inner child

Great audible for those who want to overcome trauma which can stem back to their childhood. I've been in recovery from alcohol addiction for 5 years and still had work to do with going back to my child hood. This audible explains inner child work really well and provides a framework to safely go and meet your younger self, see the pain points and beginning to unravel why you do what you do so you can become your true authentic self. Highly recommended for people wanting to move past their trauma.

A good resource to help overcome a difficult past

This is a good resource for self-reflection after a not so perfect childhood (and I would venture to say that few of us had a perfect childhood). It definitely provoked some emotion as I reflected on my own experiences and shed light on some of my current behaviors that have been affected by things that happened years ago.

I liked the reflection questions and concluding thoughts at the end of each chapter. I appreciated the idea of creating an audio log if you don't like journaling. There are comparisons and similes that helped make the point clearer or more memorable in certain sections. The book also includes some good practical tips that will help with internal healing like making sure you get enough sleep.

There were a few things that I don't agree with on a personal level, such as the idea of karma or looking at your ego as separate from yourself.

I did like how she outlined maladaptive coping mechanisms and then went over specific coping strategies. That's just one of several useful lists included with explanations in the book.

Overall I found this to be a useful book and plan to implement some of the strategies and will likely listen to it again after I've made some progress.

Fantastic Audiobook

What a fantastic audiobook! I learned a lot. It’s packed with tons of useful content, information and insights, all broken down into clear sections that are easy to understand and follow. And with great narration too. It’s perfect for self-help if you have experienced trauma in your childhood years which can still manifest itself in adult life. I liked that the book looks at self-healing and self care, which are both such important concepts that are often overlooked. Anna Berry does a great job!
