Publisher's summary

In Moon Hollow, secrets won't stay buried. Neither will the dead.

On the day her mama died, Ruby Barrett stopped hearing the mountain’s song, and her daddy, Cotton, climbed into a barrel of moonshine. With no future to look forward to except raising her two brat sisters, Ruby prays for a miracle to help her escape Moon Hollow.

When horror author Peter West arrives looking for a story idea to resurrect his failing career, Ruby believes he’s the answer to her prayers. But Cotton Barrett has some whiskey-soaked prayers of his own. He wants his wife back, and he’s willing to strike a deal with the devil himself to make it happen.

A Good but not Great Read

High Lonesome Sound was an entertaining and well-written read but for all the horror I wasn’t really gripped by the story. The characters were well drawn but flat and not that likable so when they were put in peril I didn’t really care about the outcome. I found the plot a little cliche too. Overall, not terrible but okay.

Very different and pleasantly suprising!

The narration was spot on! I thoroughly loved the narrator's voice! The book itself skipped a couple of times repeating the last paragraph twice! Highly recommended if you are looking for something other than traditional haunts!

Fantastic Story!

This extremely well written tale slowly builds up the terror as the talented narrator takes you to the horrific climax.

A fun romp with depth and truth.

Best book of the year that no one is talking about.

That may seem like hyperbole but let me tell you a few things:

High Lonesome Sound is a story of family loss and triumph, a good old fashioned ghost story, a real look into what insular southern towns are like for the outsider, an homage to the magic of the cultures from which we descend, nd an adventure forcing a writer to pluck up his courage and be a hero instead of just writing about one.

I discovered Jaye Wells last year at the DFW Writer’s Workshop conference and was impressed with her knowledge and teaching style. When I found three of her urban fantasy books in the Audible Romance package (though they are not romances), I devoured them. They were good. Entertaining. They were not this.

High Lonesome Sound has the artistry of a woman who has honed her craft and devoted her powers to telling a tale of heart and soul. Go read High Lonesome Sound. Go. Now.

WOW

This story starts out as just another story of a backwoods group of people working to survive any way they can as a community. But, it sure takes a strange turn towards the end. I am not going to tell you what happens, but I sure recommend you give it a listen. You won't be disappointed.
Rebecca Roberts, as the narrator, gives the characters a life that my own imagination wouldn't have been able to give them. Her story telling abilities are top notch and the flow of the story is perfect. I am never disappointed when Rebecca is the narrator!
Highly recommend this book!

Local heroine

The story revolves around author of horror stories who is searching for the perfect place to write. He meets a young woman who is struggling to keep her family together.
What he finds is a community with a situation stranger than he could have dreamed of writing.

The narration of the book was great. The story keeps you in suspense throughout.

5 out of 5. I love it😎

Oooh yeah. What an awesome listen. It’s a real page turner😂 This is the first time I’ve heard any of Jaye Wells work an I’m pumped. I was hooked from beginning to end, just couldn’t get enough. If you love a good thriller then yol definitely love this one. From the moment I heard the audio Sample I knew I was on a absolute winner. As always Rebecca Roberts Narration is absolutely brilliant. She smashed it out the park again, an deserves every five star rating that goes her way. If you are undecided whether to give this one a shot or not, then doent hesitate any longer. You won’t be disappointed🎇🍻👍

Very good read

The narrator’s voice is wonderful that be said
I hope there is a sequel to this creative story. Not scary but more of a thriller. Worth the credit.

Edge of you seat suspense!

Moon Hollow is a town full of secrets about to explode. When author Peter west needs a quiet place to reconnect with his writing, he rents a cabin in Moon Hollow and he's much more than ideas for a new story. Entrenched in power struggles, religion and death, West finds himself immersed in wariness and fear. This is an incredibly suspenseful novel, full of intriguing characters and overlapping stories. Wells writes with such incredible imagery, the story leaps to life. You can see it all unfold, with Deacon Fry, Rubi and Peter and try to uncover the mysteries.

Rebecca Roberts gives an outstanding narration of this story. She had me on the edge of my seat with her voices and kept me engaged through the entire story.

Disappointing...

I don't usually write review but if you think this book is anything like the Jaye Well other series beware... please enter with caution. It just wasn't what I was expecting and the narrator voice dull.
