About this listen

In the final volume of Amanda Scott’s engrossing Highland series, a Scottish heiress falls in love with a man who seems to have been plucked from her dreams.

Penelope MacCrichton watches the tall, broad-shouldered figure walk toward her across the mist-shrouded loch. Is he a phantom, a restless, sensual spirit fated to live only in her secret fantasies? Or is he the seductive, brooding stranger she meets later in London…who may not be a stranger at all?

Michael Mingary, Earl of Kintyre, is enchanted by the reserved Highland heiress, even as he’s haunted by unsettling dreams of a ghostly Scottish castle. Desperate to save his family legacy, he strikes a bargain with the Campbells—a clan with whom he has an old score to settle. But when Penelope makes a bold counter-proposal, he’s tempted beyond all measure. Surrendering to passion, Michael and Penelope gamble on a love that holds the promise of the future—a love that could be the fulfillment of all their dreams.

I did like how this book tied most of the previous characters into it so you could see where they are now. It did get slow at times, but it was worth pushing through.

A previous review referred to a rape that takes place in the book. It is only implied. During that time period, men had the rights over their wives. The author is just portraying

What drew me in to this series were the beautiful details the author provides, the language and atmosphere were well written and enhanced by the narrator ...who was brilliant. The pace and tone of the narrator’s voice was captivating .

Beautiful details, wonderful story

In all transparency, I didn't finish it, but that's because there was the name of a character who, in real life, I didn't want to think of every time I heard the name. Lol.
But what I did listen to seemed promising.

Good last installment

I truly enjoyed this series. The whole series was well written without all the sexual content most novels have now. Thank you

Wonderful series

As always, well written, your mystery of dialect is impressive and your storyline is intriguing

From one Scott to another

This book was no where near as good as books 2 & 3. There was no adventure or excitement until the end. I had to back up a lot to see who was talking, mostly because the narrator had no voice pitch differences between the male and female characters and when they switched from one to another I couldn't tell at first. I will say The ending was great, it almost made up for the rest. ALMOST BUT NOT QUITE.

It lacked adventure

The book was okay. Probably not as action packed as previous, but kept you listening. The BUT is though, you have to not mind one of the characters being raped. I do not like stories with that in it myself. True, the character was not a nice one and had walked herself into it, but anyone who says she deserved it are probably the ones who say a girl deserved it because of the way she was dressed. I also didn't care for how they characters acted afterwards. Basically, I almost punched a hole in a wall during that section the book. The book otherwise was well done, but just be warned in case you don't want to listen to a story with such subject matter.

Good, but beware, not all a happy ending

So over all the book is good although I differ on the assessment that is best in the series.. I can not buy that the villain who raped a 16 years old would risk his life to save children younger than the young woman he raped. Equally for a 16 year old who is tapped and widowed within the one night, shrug it off and continue to behave in the same selfish careless manner without any emotional stress or breakdown. I also resent calling a rape, a consumption of a marriage when that marriage and its consumption is forced- regardless of the time period. The one saving grace is that the rape scene is glossed over but the whole sequence is in convincing.. instead of the mad dash across country a bit more time between hero and heroine following there marriage to augment there feeling would have been better. Lastly the ghost is another unnecessary additions - it would have been simply best to have the hero being the same ghost she thought she sow and leave it at that .. I think the one outstanding thing about the book is the performance. Ms Bonnyman did a fantastic job

Just ok..
