Critic reviews

"Narrator R.C. Bray lends his expertise to this darker entry in the Valducan series, which features demon-hunting knights in New Orleans. Bray's deep voice and rich accent suit voodoo practitioner Malcolm exceptionally well." (AudioFile)

Solid worldbuilding

Nice use of a different supernatural tradition. But well integrated into the first book's world.

more revealed about the inner workings of Valducan

Hounacier is the name of the enchanted machete carried by Macolm Romero.  Romero was portrayed as an unlikable character in the first novel.  Here he is the main character and more than a little complicated.  His academic path was interrupted when he was introduced to a Voodoo shaman and drawn to the mysterious world of demons he couldn’t deny.

The Valducan barely survived the last attack by the demons who outnumbered them.  Now Romero’s adopted father has been murdered and he has to find out why.  In his impetuousness, he goes it alone, trusting the wrong people.  Taken over by a demon, his only hope may be death at the hand of Damoren, Matt Hollis’s enchanted revolver.

In the second novel of the series, more is revealed about the inner workings of the men called to the Valducan.  We learn more about the demons they are fighting and the men who vow to protect their enchanted weapons.  It is hard to compare the two novels, because the listener has much more understanding of the men and demons.  It is somewhat less satisfying in that regard, fewer things are new, but still a very entertaining novel, just in a different way.

R. C. Bray is excellent as usual. His rich baritone drips with intrigue as he deftly shifts between accents and demons. He is a joy to listen to and brings the story to life.

Hounacier is book two in the Valducan series.  Though there is a nod to the first novel, it stands on its own as a separate volume.  Still, it would be good to read them in order to know what happened previously and understand the special weapons and why they are so important to the men who wield them.  If you enjoyed book one, don’t hesitate to continue on.  Recommended.

Liked it! But did not Love it!

Been waiting a while for the return of the Valducan's and I can say it was "almost" worth the wait. The beginning had promise but I tired of the drawn out story line. It could have been half the length with the same out come. R.C. Bray was great as usual but he did have a time sorting out the Louisiana accents.

STOP MAKING THE SUMMARY A SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!

If you could sum up Hounacier in three words, what would they be?

BALLSOUT F@#$ing AWESOME!!!!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hounacier?

I'M NOT A SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!

Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Mr. Bray recorded the previous book Damoren and just like in Damoren he does an awesome job.

Having read the Kindle book first I can say that though the verity of accents, tones and characters voices he is able to give the book a life that is other wise missing

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

AGAIN I'M NOT A SPOILER!!!!!!

Any additional comments?

What the F!@# is up with publishers/writers spoiling the either the first half or even the whole book in the summary!!!!!!! Am I the only one who is tired of reading summary and spent most of the book waiting for the summary to happen!!!!! Espacally when it is an other great twist!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!

Ok... ok...rant over

If you loved Damoen you will love Hounacier but keep in mind that Hounacier is much more of a hard-boiled-noir-mystery then action packed trill ride that Damoen was.

Demons walk these pages!

Sometimes on a trip you look in a shop window and you see an object that takes your mind on dream of its past. Read this book and walk the path of the thing. Past, present, and future. A great story that inspires the mind and pushes the boundaries of modern demon tales. Find the weapon that speaks to you and walk the path of a hunter.
I was impressed by the reading as well as this story. R.C. Bray delivers again as a reader and Seth brings a good mix of action, mystery, and antiques with history's that pull you along for a ride.

Hounacier!

This book as the second in the series had a lot to live up too after Damoren. It was not more of the same. It was its own path to travel with the return of some familiar characters. I was very happy with the feel and and the roller coaster ride the author provides. The performance was great as always. I highly recommend this audio book!
