Publisher's summary

How People Grow reveals why all growth is spiritual growth and how you can grow in ways you never thought possible.

Our desire to grow runs deep. Yet the issues in our lives and relationships that we wish would change often stay the same, even with our best efforts at spiritual growth. What does it take to experience increasing strength and depth in our spiritual walk, our marriages and family lives and friendships, our personal development - in everything life is about? And how can we help others move into growth that is profound and lasting?

Unpacking the practical and passionate theology that forms the backbone of their counseling, Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend shatter popular misconceptions about how God operates to reveal how growth really happens.

You'll discover:

What the essential processes are that make people grow.

  • How those processes fit into a biblical understanding of spiritual growth and theology.
  • How spiritual growth and real-life issues are one and the same.
  • What the responsibilities are of pastors, counselors, and others who assist people in growing.
  • What your own responsibilities are in your personal growth.

Shining focused light on the great doctrines and themes of Christianity, How People Grow helps you understand the Bible in a way that will help you head with confidence down the high road of growth in Christ.

People are God’s Plan A

This book was encouraging, eye opening, and has an incredibly well rounded approach to how our spiritual walk impacts our life. I highly recommend listening to this if you feel far from God, if you’re struggling in relation ships with others and for sure if you are leading a Bible study group.

Be prepared to actually grow

This is such a wonderful book!! If you choose to listen, please pray and ask God to reveal yourself in this book and ask him to help you apply it’s principals. Try not to read it passively but purposefully.

The use of scripture to back up what he is saying, it is refreshing to listen to a truly Christian psychiatrist.

The only slightly negative thing that I can think of, is that sometimes I feel like you’re getting cereal shot from a canon we’re trying to take a drink from fire hose. There is just so so much information. That can be a good thing or not a good thing, based on how smart the reader is.

Great book!

Great book, very balanced in the pursuit of Spiritual Growth, Biblical Sufficiency, and the proper place of Psychology. One of my favorite insights is the need and biblical requirement for community, connection and relationship in overcoming sin and addictions. Great book!

Supa incredible

This book is a wealth of wisdom with keen insights on growth. The lack of continual growth of the majority of people is a huge factor to the continuing persistence of prevailing decadence and violence.

Really in depth path and conversation to growth

Voice could use more character. Book is great highly recommend if you’re looking to help your relationships grow in a meaningful and spiritual manner. Enjoyed how it was backed with some Bible verses. Examples of people helped understand situations.
