About this listen

When her father died, Honor Tate inherited the alpha position for a pack of werewolves based in New England. But why her? Honor would have rather just lived a "normal" life, with the occasional run through the woods in her furry suit. Still, Honor was raised to put the welfare of the pack first...and now it's time to make a formal request that the alpha of the Silverback clan - the pack to which all locals owe fealty - recognize her as alpha of the White Paw. But instead of sending his support, the Silverbacks send Logan Hunter.

Logan Hunter would do anything to protect the Silverbacks - but his devotion comes with a price. For years he has been fighting his alpha instincts and the need for his own pack. But all that changes when Logan is sent on a mission to find out whether the new White Paw alpha really has what it takes to carry on her father's legacy. Powerful, spirited, and downright gorgeous Honor exceeds his expectations...and leaves him howling for more. Could it be that he's finally found his alpha mate? Or will old enemies, dueling loyalties, and an appetite for destruction stop him dead in his tracks?

Love love.

I couldn’t wait to hear Hunter’s story and the author did not disappoint! Action packed and several twists and turns. Narration was also on point!

Strong female Alpha

I loved this story because it introduced a strong female alpha who takes no shut from her pack mates. This book is well written and proves that you can be tough on the outside but be soft on the inside when true love is present.

Expanded Short Story with Iffy Results

First of all, I feel compelled, again, to offer the actual correct reading order of these books. According to the author's website, the correct order is:

The Others Series (in chronological storyline order)
1) One Bite With a Stranger
2) Big Bad Wolf
3) Prince Charming Doesn't Live Here
4) Black Magic Woman
5) Not Your Ordinary Fairy Tale
6) On the Prowl
7) Drive Me Wild
8) Hungry Like a Wolf
9) Wolf at the Door
10) She's No Faerie Princess
11) The Demon You Know
12) Howl at the Moon
13) Walk on the Wild Side
14) You're So Vein
15) Born to Be Wild

Being a fan of this series, I also know (again from the author's website) that this book was originally a short story called "Fur Play", which she rewrote to make it longer and re-released as a novel. Writers who include short stories in a series generally tend to make the story about at least one character that we know from previous books, but they realize that not all readers will buy the anthology or short story, so generally don't include real developments in any story arc they might have going on in the series. Even though Christine Warren did increase the word count here, series readers aren't going to learn anything new from this book, except for what directly relates to the two main characters.

As for the story, Honor is her father's "Beta" and when he passes away, she becomes alpha. Logan, Beta for the powerful Silverback pack, is sent to assess her. She's going into mating heat and Logan more or less immediately realizes that she's his mate.
She's torn between her obligations and her desires. Meanwhile, several males in her pack hatch a scheme to "dethrone" her from her position. Honor is verbally very defensive, but we do get a peek at what's going on in her head, which is very different from the tough exterior she displays.

I only gave the story 3 stars because it really lacked depth. Perhaps this is because it's a rewrite of a short story. I'm not sure really. Even though it was a respectable 8 hours long, I just didn't seem to get to know the characters or become invested in them. The plot wasn't bad, but then, there were no surprises there either. If you are a die hard reader of this series, you'll buy the book anyway. If you're not a die hard reader of this series, then I would suggest you go back and start with book 1, which is superb.

Kate Reading did a wonderful job with her narration. I think a so-so book was made much better than it would have been had I read it from print.

I liked it

What can I say, maybe she had the angry wolf woman syndrome lol. But I could see where she was coming from. It wasn't the best in the series, but still a decent listen. The males were pretty arrogant to think that just because she didn't have the necessary male equipment, she wasn't worthy to lead. She did have a sorry @SS pack. What happened to loyalty? And I do feel that if she had just killed a couple of wolves in the beginning, I would have liked the book more :) Blood thirsty, that's me. lol

I will still download the rest of the series as they come up.

Bad book in a great series

I typically love these books, but this is the worst one I have listened to or read. It had very little story line, was VERY predictable, and extremely repetitive. I don't know how many times the author wrote long, drawn-out contemplative episodes about how Honor (the female) character wanted her pack to function. Each time these episodes occurred in the book, they were almost the exact same thing she had thought two chapters ago. This also happened with Logan (the male), but not as much. I don't know if Warren was trying to make up for lack of a story line and action by adding "filler", but it was really annoying. She could have done so much more with the book.

descent story

the story was descent enough to listen to, but I did not like the narrator. the female main character was supposed to be in her late 20s and the voice sounded like a woman in her 50s. and the gravely werewolf voices turned me off during the sexy scenes. there were other reasons too, but I just didn't like her.

Love listening to Kate Reading's audio interpretat

the-others, urban-fantasy, shifters, erotica, lupines

This one is all Lupine all the time. Beta of the Silverback clan goes up into the North Country to check on the status of another clan and gets entangled with the woman who would be Alpha. The story line is a little leaky at times, and the ending is a little off, but it is generally a pretty good read. I don't regret spending the money.

Good but not her best

I liked this but thought the ending was kind of a cheat. It has good characters and the plot was good until she took the easy way out.

I hated it!!

Would you try another book from Christine Warren and/or Kate Reading?

No to the author but yes to the narrator.

Has Hungry Like a Wolf turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I love the genre but not the author. I will not be listening to anymore in this series. There was way to much anger for me to enjoy the book.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Hungry Like a Wolf?

I would have advised the author to tone down on the angry outbursts of the heroine.

Any additional comments?

I love paranorma romance and friction between the main characters but this was way overboard. The writing itself was well done and if you gage a book but how it makes you feel then it was successful BUT I don't read romances to be left feeling angry. The heroine was a truly awful character that I could in no way relate to. I love a strong female lead but I read/listen to shifter romances partly because I love the alpha males not a female that can walk all overtop of them. I couldn't listen past about the 7th chapter and then even skipping to the end I was still left angry.
