About this listen

Ready or Not

Moira Dunne is a witch - the quantum physics kind. Time and space are her playthings. Which might explain why her one-night stand from a hundred years ago has turned up to "claim" her - and request her family's assistance with the war he's brewing. But the more she learns about Connlan Kayrs, the more she comes to think this is normal behavior for him....

There's Nowhere to Hide

When Conn and Moira tumbled on the moonlit grass, Conn hadn't meant to mark her as his mate for all time. She was only 20! But it wasn't easy to wait for her. It was even harder to forget her. So when he finally returns for his wicked-hot witch, he's ready to let the sparks flying. Even if he burns up in flames.....

totally and completely addicted to this series!

Love this series and so glad I'm going back to the beginning to listen from book 1 all the way through.
Story gets 5 stars, narration is a 3.5.

Moira and Conn are explosive together. Two very powerful and dominant personalities and both like to be in control. Loved their chemistry and how the whole series plays out.
It's an addicting series and hard not to stop once you start!!

Another great sequel

This is mainly the story about Maura and Kahn. I realize that these can be stand alone novels but in my opinion you need to read them sequentially.

An Alpha Solider and a powerful Witch...

...what's not to love. I have enjoyed each and every Dark Protectors books. I do recommend reading/listening to this series in order, so you can get the full meaning behind the series. I have waited for Conn and Moria's story since I first read Fated book one of the DP.

Moira is a witch that our Alpha solider Conn mated 100 years ago by mistake. She was young and had much to learn and even thou Conn knew she was his forever he agreed to leave her with her family so she can learn to become the powerful witch she was meant to be. Now that time has past and our Alpha solider is ready to take back what he wishes he never let go of, Moira. This is an on again off again love story. It takes place in Ireland, Moira's home, and away from the rest of his family.

I didn't feel this story focused on Conn and Moira as much as it should have but I do love how this book answers some unanswered question from both Fated and Claimed, Talen and Dage's stories. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did. RZ out did herself once again.

Best Story/Narration combo I've encountered!

AudioBook Review: Overall Stars 5 Narration 5 Story 5

With Dage and Talen finding their mates in Emma and Cara, the one brother who has been mated (but separated) for a century from his lady love is Connlan. A one-night stand that went horribly pear shaped has separated Conn from Moira, and the witch is not interested in a mating of ‘obligation’. She doesn’t realize how Conn actually admires and wants her beyond the mating bond. So, after all this time, they face off in a bar. It sounds like a bad joke, but these two face off with sparks, words and a surprising rescue attempt.

Part of Conn’s determination to reunite with Moira is his over-the-top protectiveness, but he really does enjoy her, and wants to shore up the alliance. Moira has the gold medal AND the world cup championship in the ‘dig your heels in” medley. With the alliance fracturing and every sect taking sides, the Kurjans are more of a threat than ever, to the Realm and to the mates.

The action and battles in this story are non-stop, with little bits of information and intention being revealed, new threats emerging and very telling scenes with Kalin and his anger, bitterness and sociopathic tendencies. Zanetti brings several elements to the table: the witches utilize the laws of physics to perform their magic, the rush to cure the virus that is so damaging to shifters and others, the backstories on the shifter’s defection, the fear for Katie, Cara’s pregnancy and Janey’s continued relationship with her dream friend and her efforts to ‘make nice’ with Kalin…it never ends!

Moira and Conn are wonderful together: he’s so very patient with her acting out, and she’s very used to being able to handle herself, and fight FOR what she believes in: will she be able to deal? In the meantime, she’s worried about Conn’s true feelings, unwilling to allow herself to feel for him. Newsflash darlin’! You already are head over heels for him, you just don’t want to admit it until he does. They are wonderful together, even if she is a bit harder to get to know and enjoy than the other mates. She’s that new friend you don’t quite know yet.

Karen White has gone above and beyond in this story: Moira’s Irish lilt and Conn’s decidedly alpha-warrior male, struggling to not appear smug in his “I Told You So”s are both spot on and never miss. This series and her performance are what each listener should demand of their audio: clear, concise, decidedly unique to the characters AND their personalities, with subtle inflection changes, pauses and insets, including one that I can only describe as a ‘verbal eyeroll” (parents of teens will know this one) that enhance and present the emotional elements, add to tension and provide readers with an “I’m there” feeling.

Hands down, one of the best combinations of action-packed engaging story and narrative performance that I have encountered, this is a series that is solidly setting itself into my favorites list.

I received an AudioBook copy of the title via Audible Communications for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

The narrator does a very poor Irish accent

The story line is very good, but the narrator does a very poor Irish accent which makes listening difficult.

Good addition to the series. Loved the narration

3.5 stars for the story
Connlan Kayrs is one of the vampire brothers. He is known as one of the best warriors of the clan. He is one of the younger brothers, but not the youngest. But he was one of the first to mate. He mated a very power, if young witch. He signed a treaty with the coven to allow her to stay with coven for 100 years to work on her skill. She is supposed to lead the council one day and she needs time to prepare. So, he has been true to his word and stayed a continent away while she did whatever the council needed her to do while she built her skill. It was not an easy time for him.

Moira is the seventh sister of the seventh sister. What this means is that she has a lot of power. Especially for a witch of her age. She is still relatively young in witch years, even at over a century old. She has been working and training as an enforcer for the Coven Nine, the governing body of the witches. She likes her job as an enforcer. This is not something Conn will like when he discovers it.

This is a series that I’ve continued to enjoy. While I’ve liked the romances in series, it has been the overall story arc and the characters that have really pulled me into these stories. The war between the vampires and the Kurjans. The difficulties building with the demons. There are troubles in the Coven Nine. Let’s not forget the shifters. Then there is Janie, the five year with a really strong forsite from the first book. She has a building story that really has me intrigued. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t that the romance in these stories aren’t good, they are. It is just, for me, that the other parts of the story are way more interesting. I do enjoy the romances. They are hot and well written. I just like the suspense parts much more. It leaves me wanting more of the story. You can bet that I’ll be checking out the next book in this series.

4.5 stars for the narration
Karen White nails it again. Moira has an Irish brogue and she did a great job with it. She does really well with the males and female voices. I love the voice that she does for Janie, the five year old. I can always tell who is talking based on the voice she is using. She is one of my favorite narrators and she continues to prove that she is fit for that title for me. I highly recommend her narration if you haven’t tried her yet.

Just okay for me

I REALLY loved book 1 of this series, but this one seemed to be all over the place. I was almost done with it before I realized that I somehow skipped book 2, so that may have been part of it, but as each couple has their own book, it should have mostly stood on it's own. I loved the parts that were about Moira and Conn's love story, and like in the first book, loved the parts about Janie and Zane, and even Kalin. But all of the other stuff (which seemed like way too much of the story) had me tuning out. I own the whole series, and most of the audios, so will likely continue on, but I'm not a fan of how it follows more than just the current couple, or how it's written in third person, so it will likely be a long time before I come back to the series.

Must love Sci Fi

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I have tried to start this book 3 times as I love this author for the Sin Brothers, and I own all 4 brothers story (Mattie is my fave). This series is way too much sci fi for me. I purchased book #3,1,2 and they have been a mistake as I didn't know which book to start with. I started with 3, as reader does a great accent, not good, so I purchased #1 as I thought that character would be more like Sin brother Mattie, NO. I can't even get started on this book so you must be a fan of all this author's work, not just the Sin Brothers.

Would you be willing to try another book from Rebecca Zanetti? Why or why not?

yes, if like the Sin Brothers series only.

Have you listened to any of Karen White’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love K.W. readings and she did a fab job on this author's Sin Brothers. I own many of her recordings. Don't miss Julie James series and Jill Shelves animal series.
