About this listen

As a child, Hester Wyatt escaped slavery, but now the dark-skinned beauty is a member of Michigan's Underground Railroad, offering other runaways a chance at the freedom she has learned to love.

When one of her fellow conductors brings her an injured man to hide, Hester doesn't hesitate...even after she is told about the price on his head. The man in question is known as the "Black Daniel", a vital member of the North's Underground Railroad network. But Hester finds him so rude and arrogant, she begins to question her vow to hide him.

Galen Vachon is a member of one of the wealthiest free black families in New Orleans. He has turned his back on the lavish living he is accustomed to in order to provide freedom to those who are enslaved in the South. However, as he heals, he cannot turn his back on Hester Wyatt; he is determined to make this gorgeous and intelligent woman his own. Yet there are traitors to be discovered and slave catchers to be evaded before Hester and Galen can find the freedom that only true love can bring.

Contains mature themes.

I had read bad reviews about the narrator of this book that had kept me from listening to it. I understand what the reviews were talking about, a better narrator would have made this book an absolute classic but, the strength of the story could not be diminished. The story made me cry in several places. Ms. Jenkins does a masterful job weaving historical fact throughout the story. Great book!

Wonderful Story!

I loved the story when I read it as a paperback. I was excited to listen on Audible. Sadly the monotone, flat badly accented and poorly pronounced reading by the narrator spoiled it for me. She couldn't keep the accent consistent and Galen did not sound seductive in any way shape or form, nevermind the fact that she couldn't do a French accent if her life depended on it. I had to stop the book to avoid this narration ruining a book I enjoyed as a paperback.

The Narrator spoiled this for me

What made the experience of listening to Indigo the most enjoyable?

Most of the slave books I read are not this sexy! I also liked how resistant Hester was upon meeting Galens advances. Although she was a prior slave, she knew who she was and could hold her own no matter the caste system. She made him fight for her because she was worth it.

What other book might you compare Indigo to and why?

I have no other comparison.

What about Robin Eller’s performance did you like?

The narrator did a great job in bringing the characters to life and also taking her time so that we would understand in great detail the moral of the story. Enjoyed her!

Finally a Happy Ending
