About this listen

As a child, Hester Wyatt escaped slavery, but now the dark-skinned beauty is a member of Michigan's Underground Railroad, offering other runaways a chance at the freedom she has learned to love.

When one of her fellow conductors brings her an injured man to hide, Hester doesn't hesitate...even after she is told about the price on his head. The man in question is known as the "Black Daniel", a vital member of the North's Underground Railroad network. But Hester finds him so rude and arrogant, she begins to question her vow to hide him.

Galen Vachon is a member of one of the wealthiest free black families in New Orleans. He has turned his back on the lavish living he is accustomed to in order to provide freedom to those who are enslaved in the South. However, as he heals, he cannot turn his back on Hester Wyatt; he is determined to make this gorgeous and intelligent woman his own. Yet there are traitors to be discovered and slave catchers to be evaded before Hester and Galen can find the freedom that only true love can bring.

Contains mature themes.

Good enough to read it and ditch the narrator!

Where does Indigo rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Its a great book with well fleshed out characters and storylines.

Would you be willing to try another one of Robin Eller’s performances?

I really am not trying to be mean but this reading is a disservice to the book. Its just awful. Flat, dull, monotone, annoying...really horrible. The text-to-speech on my Kindle was better and less distracting than this narration. I wound up just reading it with no sound. If they re-record it with a more lively narration I would purchase it. How does, Thomas Penny or the other guy sound better, for male and female voices, than a women reading a romance novel? Thanks but no thanks.

Any additional comments?

This is a wonderful story. As always, full of history and romance. Please don't use Ms. Eller as a narrator anymore. I want to return the book but I wont just to support the author and the ability of getting this specific niche on audiobooks, there is nothing out there like Ms. Jenkins writings.

The total book is just wonderful

How could the performance have been better?

A different Narrator

Who was the most memorable character of Indigo and why?

Love them all

Excellent

this is one of my favorite Beverly Jenkins books. However the narrator lacked luster, it was like listening to paint dry

Great characters and setting

I was pulled in from the start. The voice of the Audible narrator is not engaging. I fell asleep while reading on more than one occasion, but I always restarted and went backwards because I really liked the characters and their story. Very realistic, fairly well written

Fantastic story!

I’ve never been a fan of historical romances. I thoroughly enjoyed this one because it weaves in real historical figures, and it has an element of suspense and drama.

Great read

Would you listen to Indigo again? Why?

Most definitely!

What did you like best about this story?

The strength of the characters and the historical facts.

Which scene was your favorite?

The Swing that Nate put up for Vivid on her front porch.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I love how loyal the community was to each other and how Vivid chip away the shield that Nate had build around his heart to protect it. Once the shield was gone Nate was loving and had such a nice since of humor.

Any additional comments?

I truly love Ms Jenkins book and hope to see them all on Audio.

I love this book!

Beverly Jenkins is one of my favorite authors and I have all of her books and I reread them often so when I saw that this book was on Audible I grabbed it up and was excited to hear it read. The story always makes me happy because I love the story of Hester and Galen however the voices that I have inside of my head for them didn’t match the narrator’s voice so it kind of threw me off a little bit but it’s still one of my favorite stories.

Indigo reigns supreme

I remember reading this when it came out and I never forgot the tale of the blue hand abolitionist. And the galant Galen! Makes me swoon! Hearing the story again was a delight.
