Publisher's summary

As a child, Hester Wyatt escaped slavery, but now the dark-skinned beauty is a member of Michigan's Underground Railroad, offering other runaways a chance at the freedom she has learned to love.

When one of her fellow conductors brings her an injured man to hide, Hester doesn't hesitate...even after she is told about the price on his head. The man in question is known as the "Black Daniel", a vital member of the North's Underground Railroad network. But Hester finds him so rude and arrogant, she begins to question her vow to hide him.

Galen Vachon is a member of one of the wealthiest free black families in New Orleans. He has turned his back on the lavish living he is accustomed to in order to provide freedom to those who are enslaved in the South. However, as he heals, he cannot turn his back on Hester Wyatt; he is determined to make this gorgeous and intelligent woman his own. Yet there are traitors to be discovered and slave catchers to be evaded before Hester and Galen can find the freedom that only true love can bring.

My first book by Beverly Jenkins

This book has alot of research behind it. It is more than a standard romance novel. Yes, you still get the romantic bed room scenes, but you will learn some history too. We need to hear the history as to not repeat it. So, the format of fiction and history helps it burn better into our recollect. The narrator was a bit monotone, but I did like her Galen voice.

Love Story during our most difficult Era.

This was a wonderfully written piece of historical fiction! The story was rollercoster filled with peaks and valleys of passion and fright. I will lose myself in this book over and over again.

Beautiful Black Love Story

Very well written and such a treat to go into a period piece centered on Black romance by a Black writer knowing the protagonist won’t be traumatized or brutalized.

Hope they make this one a movie

I really enjoyed this book , since I am from Michigan many of the towns that were mentioned in the book I know the areas and it made the book so real for me just hearing the names of real town . Hope someday soon this would become a movie. I would love to see the characters come to life on a screen.

Indigo

First book I have read by
Beverly Jenkins. Loved it !!!! Won’t be my last!! Characters, storyline, history, performance …on and on were welled developed and gave you the feeling that you just had to listen to more. I learned so much from this book. History and “other stuff”. I am 76 years old and have decided to tell my 76 years old husband that I want to be his mistress. The time for his viewing will be announced in the local paper.
Please note the smile on his face !

Loved the strong

Beautiful romance at a time when love wasn’t expected. I love historical literature, so Indigo was amazing to me. Now that I’m finished the book I miss the characters.

Good to read about Black Love even during slavery!

This book had a lot of ups and downs, while sharing the story of the underground railroad. What a wonderful love story during a difficult time.
