Publisher's summary

Trapped on a derelict space station, Jake must destroy an alien infestation - or he’ll never see his home again.

Still reeling from the death of his parents, Jake finds a doorway to an abandoned space station in his grandfather's basement. But when he walks through, he discovers he's trapped there, and he’s got company.

The station's AI enlists Jake to reclaim the systems needed to support life, but there’s a catch - he has only eight hours to complete the task or he’ll die alone in the cold vacuum of space. With only his trusty wrecking bar, work boots, and some basic survival equipment, he must defeat the horrific monsters that infest the station before his air runs out.

But aliens aren’t all he has to worry about. Hidden in the station is a message that could spell doom for Earth, and the entire universe along with it.

If you're a fan of crunchy, sci-fi LitRPG with a healthy dose of base-building, then this space survival adventure with visceral combat is the book for you.

Emmy-nominated Hal Rayle is one of the voice world’s most well respected voice-over performers. He has been creating, teaching, and developing characters for over 40 years. As a performer, he has created and re-created animation voices for: The Muppets, TMNT, The Transformers (G-1), G.I.Joe (G-1), Back to the Future, The Wizard of Oz, The Pink Panther, Superman, Batman, and a host of many, many other shows. Hal is the voice of the Predator in Predator 2, Ewoks for George Lucas, all of the Ghoulies in Ghoulies 2, and the list goes on.

This is Hal Rayle’s first audiobook. This book opens up a new sound for the recorded novel market. Hal has created a new genre in his recording facility called “book imaging”. He not only reads the written word but uses multiple voices and a smattering of sound effects to afford the listener a theater-of-the-mind experience. That said...sit back and enjoy.

Enjoyable listen

The story good but what made it great for me was the narration & sound effects. Can't wait for book 2.

Good Start to Sci-Fi LitRPG Series

Inheritance is a fun and, once it really gets going, fast-paced Sci-Fi LitPRG adventure. The character makes several stupid mistakes, but is generally believable. The disconnect in understanding, both by the main character about how things work in this expanded universe he is now inhabiting and of the world he comes from by the people who developed the modules to train people from Earth about what they can do, makes for some humorous moments. The narration is generally pretty good, and the range of voices impressive. The only downsides are that the narrator alters the pace a bit overly dramatically when switching from restful to active actions and the unnecessary and somewhat inconsistent use of sound effects. Overall very enjoyable and looking forward to more in the series!

No Multitasking

I drove through the night and this book and voice acting kept me up. I didn't want to stop listening and sleep even after listing for 8 hours straight. The voice acting is on point! The story keeps you at the edge of your seat. I usually will put a book on and go about my day.... This book kept me riveted to it. No multitasking with this book!

Good book

Great book for a Space style LitRPG, Hal Rayle did a awesome job with the added sound effects. Love to see more of that in the future. I do think that Jake needs a little help from the author in the imagination department when building things, defending location or any Military knowledge.

Good, not great.

The MC should have been named Brick instead of the AI. He eventually makes the right choices, but normally after he almost dies a few times.

The narration was.. Well it wasn't bad. He was one of the most expressive voice actors I've heard. But I personally would have liked it better if he didn't change the tempo on stressful situations. Something about it made it hard to follow while driving. Had to rewind a number of times.

The tech, and freedom for experimentation was interesting. I admit I'd probably tinker with that component system as much or more as he did.

I think my biggest issue is that he had weeks to prepare for the last fight. He had all the time in the world to make a small fleet of drones, not to mention he didn't even bother making a shield done which would have helped immensely in the last fight. As soon as I heard about it I knew he would have made it. Fuck, he should have made a dozen.

Is not like he couldn't have gotten the material back. Throw your metaphorical wallet at the problem instead of your like idiot. Sure, there was a bit of constraint on clusters, but he could have farmed a few small nodes for a few days.

There was nothing stopping the last battle from being a drone war other than plot.
